Camp Site Advice

My partner and I are planning to go camping with our 2 and a half year old this May bank holiday...

We're based near Chester and would like some ideas of campsites not too far away - probably Wales or Peak District based, which are child friendly! As the websites don't really help much! Happy to rough it, but equally happy with nice facilities!

Also any tips for small child camping.....it's our first time with child along!

Think you need to have a think about what type of facilities you would like. Would your child be happy with a small playground and a field to play in or are you looking for a campsite that has tonnes of facilities?

Not looking for lot's of facilities, we're quite happy making our own activities, and happy to pop out in the car for other activities.

You are spoilt for choice with North Wales so near. Whilst I can't recommend a specific campsite, your best bet is to pick an area you are interested in, find the local campsites and check out their reviews on places such as UK camping.

Regarding facilities....with a 2 year old, you just need a decent site, preferably with a small playground. I always aim for one with clean showers and a decent toilet block, preferably with a changing table. It's also worth remember that when your DC goes to bed, one of you will be stuck in the tent, so it's worth taking some amusements and a comfortable camping chair with you. It's also worth taking extra fleeces and layers, both for your and your DC as the temperature drops at night.

Brow Farm, it's in the Shropshire Hills and is great. There are basic toilets and showers, if you want you can have hook.up, apparently there is now wi-fi.
The surroundings are beautiful, lots of great walks direct from the site. Not far to Shrewsbury, Church Stretton where there is a huge fascinating "antique"(junk) centre or Ludlow.
There is a stream at the side for dam building, and a great family friendly pub which does good food about 10mins walk away at Bridges.
You can have a camp fire in a fire pit, we love it.

The only did downside is no mobile reception or is that a plus?

www.whitelodgecaravanpark.com/ in Anglesey is close to a gorgeous beach. They've done extensive work on the site - when we first started going it was just a field. What was a cafe is now a bistro that people come from miles around to eat at.

www.erwglascampsite.co.uk/ is a small family site. The views are stunning. It's just outside Betws y coed.
If you've never camped before, the showers here are a good place to start with children - they're amazing.!
