Solo parenting

Off in rented campervan with DS 2 1/2. Main aim will be finding dryish beaches to roam about on and chill. Bit worried about things like managing to go to the shower block - will have to bring DS with me etc as he's not a great sleeper so can't nip off safely when he's asleep.
Also - what's the etiquette for going day touring? Do we need to leave something to mark out "our" pitch or will people think we're scallies for doing that?
Anythign else I should know?
I'm planning easy peasy meals with minimal cooking / chips on the beach
