Any one been to any of the Italian lakes campsites?

The kind of sites that have caravans or bungalows to hire out too, I don't want to end up on a butlins type site, going at easter though so should be quieter.

We went to Lake Garda last year. Went with Keycamp in July and it was extremely busy. It was called Europa Silvella (west shore of the lake) and there were loads more in the vicinity. We got a major bargain on flights from Glasgow to Bergamo and it was an easy drive over.

We are going for flights to Bergamo too, and looking for a quite site that doesn't feel like butlins, we stayed in a site with Siblu nr Salou last year and it was a bit Butlins, but having said that if I hadn't been freezing every night I would have enjoyed it a bit more.

Travel rug is not my idea of bedding, plus we filled cases with sheets as I forgot to book them and when I phoned Siblu they said it was too late but when we arrived they had the sheet packs ready for us argh!!! sory rant over.

Hoping April will be quite enough, but in Spain there were quite a few brits on holiday too that were pains.

There was a real mix of nationalities there. Hardly any Brits at all!

This particular site had caravan type mobiles and wooden cabins too. Might be a bit warmer?

I think the Canvas site has a few there and they have customer reviews too.

Thanks I will have a look at the canvas reveiws. I found a bungalow with heating but it is on a big site and doesn't look like it has any seats apart from the dining chairs, we like to relax in at night rathrer than sitting in the bar with the kids,

Another smaller site with a pool that is heated and will be open then (most are not), but doesn't look like the caravan has heating, or do they all tend to have heating so it might just not be mentioned.

Bloody good price so I am tempted and might just buy big duvets once we are there then donate them to the reps (if they are nice ).

Gosh, thinking about this has brought back memories... Haven't done it for years, but always used to go with Eurocamp . Valle Romantica at Lago Maggorie was a beautiful site. Fair walk into town (Cannobbio) but beautiful lake-front town, plenty of cafes and restaurants.

Thanks I will have a look at that too, had a look but the one I was interested in hasn't got any reveiws.

Eurocamp only have the huge one Bella Italia open when we are going but I will have a good look anyway as I might book direct with the campsite.

Skribble, from memory all the mobiles have a gas fire in the living area - which, given the size, will heat the whole place!

Is it Camping Butterfly you are thinking of? I noticed it didn't have any reviews on the Canvas website. We are going there in the summer. Looks like it's a quieter site.

I am looking at San Francesco, nr Sirmione, e.mailed the site for more info, but I have booked flights so I will have to book accom soon. Could book through hoseasons for the same price but the caraven booked through the site looks much better.

We had a caravan in Spain In april last year and yes it had a gas fire but didn't heat the bedrooms that much, we were freezing at night, but that was mostly due to inadequate bedding (travel rug). I didn't realise that was all you got when they said pillows and blakets provided.

This year if it is cold I will buy cheap bedding from the local market and give to the reps (if nice) when we leave .

It would always be worth asking the reps if there are extra blankets available...hopefully they would not be at capacity at that time of year? Then just leave the reps a slightly larger tip.

San Fransesco would have been my preference for the summer, but there was no availability for the time we are to be there.

I phoned later, they said might not be availible, so I decided to take own sheets, as advert said blankets and pillows included. I didn't realised the hired bedding packs included duvets and sheets hence the inadaquate travel rug we were provided with.
