Campsites and places to recommend for our 2016 Welsh adventure

We're thinking of touring Wales next year and looking for great campsites. Open to all ideas and suggestions at the moment, but rough plan is to stay at 3-4 campsites for about 3 nights each before heading to Fforest Fields (which is just north of Brecon) for about a week which will allow for more of) a rest.

The shorter visits will be busy visiting local places. We like shortish walks (@5 miles) and other outdoorsy stuff and unique places (we did the Big Pit last year and want to return).

We'd like to include the Gower.
DH wants a Snowdonian NP visit- we can be within driving distance of this.
Not overly fussed by Pembrokeshire as we have been a few times BUT if there is a lovely campsite we're in.

We like smaller sites, but not so 'cool and glam' that you have to hire a yurt with a hot tub for £300/night. Needs loos, showers and space. EHU a bonus. Not bothered by playground etc. Have started searching on UKcampsites etc but there are so many to start with that I hope a recommendation will help.

So please, give us your favourite sites and/or places to locate ourselves in.

For the Gower I'd choose Port Eynon as right on the beach, no frills but clean toilets and showers, and a good chippie.
Also Nicholasron farm , or three cliffs bay.

Nicholaston farm.

Best beach in the entire world.

For mid Wales near Hay on Wye would recommend Trericket mill

www.trericket.co.uk/camping.html

Lovely peaceful site with babbling stream, good facilities, owners very friendly, reasonable rates, good base to explore mid Wales

Three Cliffs Bay in the Gower - but not with really small children.

I think it got put into Cool Camping or whatever so it's quite busy. But the view from the front field is amazing. It's rather windy there so take lots of layers, or camp in the back field for less of a view but more comfort.

I agree with Port Eynon too, though I also found that a bit windy.

www.coolcamping.co.uk/campsites/uk/wales/the-gower/swansea/119-hillend Came on to say the Gower and see you've mentioned it in your op. We have stayed here and loved it. Hope I've done the link right. We also did surfing lessons through the campsite which was fun if that's something you'd be interested in. Lovely atmosphere, right next to beautiful beach, lovely food and clean toilets and showers.

Thanks for all the suggestions, had already found Nicholaston farm on searches but will check out all the others. Think we may struggle to choose!

Cwellyn Arms - Snowdonia. Very beautiful site, right at the base of Snowdon and next to a lake and river. Personally If I was doing Wales I'd give the Gower a miss and concentrate on Snowdonia. My experience of the Gower is that it can be quite crowded, it's a small peninsula really. Might be just me though.

If you want space then Talybont Farm, on the edge of the Brecon National Park, has HUGE pitches. All around the edge of a field on a working farm, with beautiful views, EHU, and a small but decent loo/shower block. It has a canal next to the site that you can walk along if you want something different to the hills.
We were there a week ago, also went to Hendre Mynach, on the coast at Barmouth and Aeron Coast Caravan Park- which is next to the Harbour of the pretty Aberaeron, and with a lovely coastal walk along to New Quay ( but we got the bus back)

We stayed here earlier this year : www.away-from-it-all.co.uk
It's glamping but not posh. Great location for Snowdonia and Lleyn Peninsula.

I saw the thread title and was coming to recommend Fforest fields as it is so lovely! I do recommend getting some wetsuits for the lake Smile
