Hi all. Just got a tent and looking at campsite prices. One included electrichook up. How does this work if you're in a tent?I'd only want electricity for phone charger and hair dryer. Thanks

You need to buy an electric hook up lead thingie. That goes from the electric point outside the tent into your tent.

Elysianfields · 13/08/2015 16:22

You need the electrical connector thingie (technical) like this www.gooutdoors.co.uk/maypole-mobile-mains-power-unit-230v-10a-p311812?gclid=Cj0KEQjwgLGuBRCqptLsnJCvh-wBEiQAiNRjsWUqlKdWQA8Kijwk5idfRPzUZtB7PvizaOvVHyz23goaAmS18P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

You just plug it in to the box on site, roll it in to your tent and voila you have power.

Remember this opens up more exciting stuff than chargers though, like electric cool boxes, kettles and fan heaters!

Usual - love the shared use of "thingie"

BishopBrennansArse · 13/08/2015 16:25

Make sure you get it from somewhere reputable like a good camping store as there are 'fake' ones on eBay that won't protect you if there's a surge. There's a reason why they cost what they do.

We bought ours from Go Outdoors I think. It has a circuit breaker on it.

EHU

Blue three pronged thingy at one end goes into the electricity box that sticks out of the ground next to the tents. Long orange lead and then a multi socket box or some people have a wheel at the other end. That bit goes in your tent.

knickernicker · 13/08/2015 16:51

That's great info everyone. Will decathlon have them?

I didn't find it on their website, they may do. I do know that Millets and Blacks have them in their sale at the moment though.

You can often plug a hairdryer in in the shower block. But we find hook up invaluable for a travel kettle, electric colonic & to charge phones.

Wolfiefan · 13/08/2015 22:13

Be aware you can't plug in some household stuff in a hook up on a campsite. (We have a camping kettle for instance.)

BishopBrennansArse · 13/08/2015 22:15

Colonic? Blimey Wink

balletgirlmum · 13/08/2015 22:16

My typing on the phone is awful. That should be electric cool box

Lipsiensis · 14/08/2015 14:11

I prefer a gas powered colonic myself.

Lipsiensis · 14/08/2015 14:12

Oh and fan heater = dry towels. It's worth it just for that.
