A little bit off topic - has anyone done a chocolate fondue with a trangia? Would it work?

Just thinking that the lovely little stove sitting in the shed when we are not camping is a bit of a waste.

In the house? What could go wrong?

You still need the pan full of water with a bowl of chocolate nesting inside - we did this on a rainy day at half term, dipping strawberries and pieces of fruit in it .... our tent quickly filled up with children --meaning that I didn't get enough to eat**.

Yes, pan of boiling water. We have stainless steel bowls for camping and one of those fits perfectly on our large pan so that only the bottom 1-2" is in the water.

warning, do not publicise it on a camp site. DH was a bit when the kids DD had been playing with came and asked if they could have some .

Is a firm favourite dessert here, peaches, nectarines, strawberries, pieces of ripe pear. Lovely. Nicer in cold weather too of which we have plenty.

My trangia has two pans, one will sit in the other, but there won't be much water in between the two. Hmm.

Can you melt it directly? Add some milk or cream or something? Set the heat on low. Heading towards chocolaty disaster?

I think that you would scorch the chocolate even with two pans, you could put the second pan on a couple of spoons crossed in the bottom of the first pan, or a ramekin or something.

I do add a bit of milk, I use massively dark chocolate and have been shopping already this morning for our epic trip .....7 bars of dark chocolate , 17 nights, didn't want to get too repetitive

Good point. You are indeed wise in the ways of chocolate. Will try it tomorrow. Good luck with your trip, but are you sure you have enough chocolate?

We always have enough chocolate uptoapoint, it is a life skill. It is usually the strawberries that are the issue. When DD's little friends turned up DH was seriously gutted - one bar of chocolate, 1 punnet of strawberries - perfect proportions.

I have Waitrose plain chocolate (best chocolate in the world IMHO) ready for this venture. And strawberries. And cherries. Perhaps even bananas.

Have you tried camp fire chocolate bananas? Cut a slit in the skin, stuff chocolate, wrap in foil, stick on fire. Yum.

I have tried bananas, DD loves them, I find the cooked banana taste very strong, used Hotel Chocolate dark chocolate buttons too.

Adults here would kill or in DH's case sulk for melted chocolate covered soft fruit.

I bought a selection of lovely chocolate today, Divine, Montezumas, Willies and something I haven't had before, Madecasse 80% ...... I love dark chocolate and red wine!! DH had to take some firewood out of the trailer when I came back with the wine load .

Nectarines are lovely, sometimes we cook them on the bbq before drizzling them with chocolate if we are organised enough.

You are making me hungry. I might have to settle for toast. Now that's a thing you don't get at camping.

We do ... we have an ancient primus toast maker . Poached eggs on toast is our fav breakfast!!

We use it with a trangia and a heat pal!
