I have just said to DH that we will have to get wrapped up today as we are fencing in one of our fields and he said 'have you seen the weather in Scotland'?

No, I hadn't but have just looked - highs of 13, strong winds and rain - we are all mad!

When it's not chucking it down it's not too unpleasant up here!! Was thinking of you today…DH and DD were supposed to leave for Barra on Saturday but have postponed till week of the 5th hoping for better weather! When are you heading off?
Pack wellies and raincoats as at the moment they will be your only clothing need!

We are leaving on Friday for the Lakes, Arran on Monday, had planned on Mull on Thursday but the ferry was almost £200 which I thought was a bit much for two nights so am camping here instead, and we will do a day trip to Mull.

Skye on Saturday and then to Harris on Tuesday. We will just make it up after that I think. I do have a rough route planned but we might not stick to it, we might go further north or east at that point. We don't get back until the 17th so lots of time for the weather to change.

Thinking of taking 2 pairs of winter walking trousers, 2 pairs of unlined walking trousers and 2 pairs of cropped walking trousers (everything I own basically). With 5 sets of thermals.

I was thinking of walking boots, walking shoes and crocs - not particularly glamorous. We spend a lot of life outside so have more outdoor clothing than we could possibly need - have given up on the roof box idea - would be fine with summer weather but not with wet weather gear ... and we are taking a supply of logs seeing as we have got room.

Might even pack a swimsuit .

Oh, I forgot, we have got to fit a trip on the Jacobite in for Harry Potter mad DD, I e-mailed them, they take dogs so that is great, that will influence our journey south.

We stayed at there a few years ago…great views and an access gate to the shorefront at bottom of site. Facilities were clean but basic but he was doing it up at the time. Nice owner.
A Stevenson lighthouse nearby too which has a nice cafe/shop if weather is dire and you need some entertainment!!
Lickisto campsite on Harris is the nicest but only a few pitches. Horgabost has great views but can be heaving at height of summer. A nice wild camp but not very private spot at Northton beach close to Horgabost is where DH went last year when Horgabost was too busy for his taste!! It's just a case of pitching or in his case parking beside the beach. Check it out on Google Maps. It is stunning. Also look out for Croft 36 in Northton. It's a couple who have a hut at the end of their garden with local produce/fresh fish/seafood etc. They also do limited hot meals delivered to your pitch/holiday house. Seafood Thermidor is a favourite!

Bet you'll go dressed for a disaster and it'll be in the late 20's and full sunshine everyday!

We are freezing in Norfolk this afternoon. After a day of strimming weeds and fencing I am about to have a bath and light the wood burner - it is only 14 degrees here - very very heavy rain - such a shame for all those people camping!

I have just looked at your suggestions CampingClaire, Lickisto is no 1 on my list! The beach does look stunning. Also looked up Croft 36 and sent the menu to DH!

Am really looking forward to it - we are coming to Scotland because I don't like the heat (didn't think I would be wearing my ski thermals though)!

We are planning to take the other tent to Italy next summer - somewhere mountainous like the Dolomites (our fav ski destination) which won't be too hot.

We are in Arran, 55mph winds last night left maybe 10 tents destroyed on our site, poor things. We were fine although it felt like I was in a washing machine with the winds hitting, whirling and then coming back up the valley.

Still an adventure , we could not leave today, no ferries due to wind. I am sat here watching a load of laundry dry ... with wifi! Could be worse, wet clothes and no wifi.

Lots of chocolate and fondues Lord Copper, weather very testing. We arrived to Glenbrittle with 45mph winds, horizontal rain and 8 degrees . Don't mind the cold with our stove but constant rain is a bit trying - I am not looking my best

We did have a good time thank you LordCopper, despite the weather. We did change our plans a bit and didn't go to Harris - we met a lovely man on Skye who had just been there for three weeks in his camper van and didn't see the sun once . So we came south and spent a few days near Glencoe and then went to Teasdale because we knew that the sun was shining there .

We are actually home early due to something lower than pond life breaking into my tack room last night. Not much stolen but my friend was worried that one of my ponies had been 'marked' by her mane being cut.
