Les Valades and plug socket question

profpoopsnagle · 12/07/2015 12:16

Is there anywhere in the loo/shower block to plug in a hairdryer? Don't think the amp will be up to it on pitch?

hillbilly · 13/07/2015 13:35

I don't remember there being sockets esp not in the shower block down by the pool. I hardly ever used the ones by reception so not sure. Email them, they are usually quite good in replying promptly.

hillbilly · 13/07/2015 13:36

Ah they might have sockets in the laundry room.

profpoopsnagle · 13/07/2015 22:19

HB, thanks, I don't recall there being any but felt I should check. TBH I CBA with hair-drying after every swim on holiday so will probably go au-natural avec gross frizz. And wear a hat!

OP posts:
holdingontight · 15/07/2015 23:15

Yes I think there was one plug in the ladies toilet block....but to be honest I was au frizz au natural last year...

I am so excited, we will be back there in 3.5 weeks GrinGrinGrin

hillbilly · 15/07/2015 23:27

Prof and holding on wher will you be pitched? We are there from 1st for 3 weeks. I'll be the one with the crocheting on the go mostly Grin

profpoopsnagle · 16/07/2015 12:37

Arrive the 9th, pitched up the top, near the chalets. Can't wait!

OP posts:
holdingontight · 16/07/2015 15:52

We arrive 9th and there for 2 wks Grin think I am as excited as the boys! Not Enjoying the weather forecast tho -- looks cold!!

We have a 7hr drive to do on the 9th currently debating evening food with DH as I doubt we will arrive before 6... He says carrefour and cook. I say pitch and feed kids on the terrace

Last year we barely saw boys as they plodded off to do kids club etc... I may have to take a stitch project with me...

profpoopsnagle · 16/07/2015 21:07

Shock What forecast are you using? Have you been before holding?

We have a shorter drive as coming from stopover but DH takes agggggeeeesss to get ready. I say terrace too, but could be busy as Sunday is quite a big changeover night.

I will be undertaking the craft of drinking wine.

OP posts:
holdingontight · 16/07/2015 22:23

Grin At the art of drinking wine Prof... I think that will be me when the first peg is in the ground!

I a, using accuweather... Not so bad for our 2nd week but first week looks grey and cold. It's been v accurate before Hmm

The Sunday night meal debate rages chez Holding... Usually we stop over but afternoon Saturday crossing. Means we just have to crack on with the 1 day drive... I am a fan of the occasional camping noodle pot, DH is not impressed by this idea GrinGrin I will have to feed him more beer and then he won't care!!

HairyMaclary · 20/07/2015 18:16

Ooh, more les valadians! We are there for the second time from the 7-17th. Pitch 58 by the lake. Am really looking forward to it but now starting to look at other activities to do in the surrounding area. Any ideas for any good ones anyone? We did the caves last time we went, will def do canoeing along the river and some markets but any other ideas I may not have come across?

Not keen on the weather forecast you mention, will have to have a look at that site.

HairyMaclary · 20/07/2015 18:25

Hillbilly - I think we met you last time we were there!

holdingontight · 21/07/2015 22:02

Hairy you have asked the exact question I came on to ask! We did frankly not a lot last year, all a bit burnt out and in dire need of sun and doing not a fat lot, so we rarely strayed from the site...we did have an adventure involving missing car keys in Perigeaux market that I don't want to repeat though!

I've conceded the Lot is too far in a day but this year I would like to drive to Rocamadour. But what I really want to find is a river beach/swim place. Tried Limuell last year but it was all a bit grey. I'd like to try the high ropes/ tree top adventure place too.

Any suggestions?

hillbilly · 22/07/2015 00:30

Hello hairy yes indeed we did so see you again soon! Just got back from 4 days camping in Sussex with no reception so will check in on this thread again tomorrow :-)

hillbilly · 22/07/2015 00:31

Oh and holding- def eat on terrace on arrival day!

HairyMaclary · 22/07/2015 08:48

We had a missing keys adventure too, last time we were there. It was the friends we were with but hoping not to repeat that this time!

I had hear that there was an aqua park somewhere close but haven't been able to find it online- anyone know anything about that?

millimat · 22/07/2015 10:24

We arrive on 11th Grin Never been before so will hold all you responsible of we fine like our!!!
Is the terrace the restaurant? We will need to investigate that.
We need a stopover sites for on the way back as I think its to long a drive to Calais when toeing a caravan. Just a basic municipal site south of Paris but can't find any?

millimat · 22/07/2015 10:25

Oh and how do you know your pitch number?

HairyMaclary · 22/07/2015 13:57

When we booked we asked for a specific pitch number as DS1 has physical difficulties and we needed to be relatively near things.

Trip is long from Paris, we are overnighting at a travelodge place near Poitiers (I think, must check all this soon!).

hillbilly · 22/07/2015 16:29

We had our firepit nicked Hmm

That aside, can't fault it. Although I think there could possibly be more variety on the restaurant menu. Maybe I've just eaten there too many times! We also specifically book our pitch, in fact hairy we are 57 again this year Smile

There is a crappy water park nearby on the road to Le Bugue but think there might be some good water slides etc on a neighbouring campsite. There are leaflets in reception.

Also looking for more things to do in the area - must do some research.

profpoopsnagle · 22/07/2015 17:38

Another Valadian! We all seem to be travelling at a similar time this year.

We didn't book a pitch last year (ended up on 38) but booked much earlier this year- in fact tried to get an individual bathroom pitch but were just pipped to the post. We were offered 58 which I rather fancied but the rest of the family wanted to be up the top so we will be 25.

I wasn't very well last year so we hardly went off site, but hopefully that won't happen this year and we are staying for longer. I do have a guide book but that probably won't get read until we're on the way!

OP posts:
HairyMaclary · 22/07/2015 19:35

Ooh, we've got 58! When did you book, going it was before us and our pitch is still safe!

profpoopsnagle · 22/07/2015 20:21

11th Jan (checked email, not that much of a geek!).

About third-half of the pitches had gone at that point as we asked for a list- but bearing in mind that would have been for the duration that we wanted, not necessarily what was available. It did surprise me that so much was booked up.

OP posts:
HairyMaclary · 22/07/2015 20:24

Phew, 17th for us, wouldn't normally mind but we this year we need to make thighs as easy as poss for us all - been a long year!

millimat · 24/07/2015 18:41

Gosh just read the other post back. What a lot of typos - doesn't even make sense!
Do you think they know pitch numbers before you arrive if its not requested? I'm debating emailing them to see if they can tell me. (Not sure if I want a pitch up at the top or down by the lake tho!)

hillbilly · 25/07/2015 07:36

Hi Millimat, yes I'm sure they will have pre allocated pitches and also the ones down by the pool are most likely to be completely booked up as people who like them tend to rebook early. Having said that it's always worth emailing them.

When we went for the first time 3 years ago I requested a pitch by the lake and got it (prob booked in about March) - the following year I had much less choice even though I booked in Dec, and for this year we booked before we left the campsite last summer Grin
