Thank you! We've just got back from our first camping trip and it was brilliant!

I had lots of questions answered, lurked on lots of threads and read advice on old ones. We took the plunge, got a tent and spent 3 nights in Northumberland with our 2 boys (3 and 8 months) and it was brilliant. As we've driven home DH looked at me and said "we're going to be the kind if family that camps, aren't we?". Yes, yes we are!

Tonight's challenge: we're looking for a campsite in the lakes for the summer and we're booking it up!

That's just what we were like a couple of years ago - camping's great fun isn't it? I'm a total convert. We got back on Friday and have already booked another weekend in a few weeks!

We've just got back, had to pack up in the in today, just got home, everything wet and stinks of fire, already wondering when we can go again!

Ooo what's it like camping with a baby?

We've been considering it for next year, DD is only 2 months at the moment, and DS is three. He would love it though, and DP likes camping. I'm not so keen on the toilets and showers though!

Honestly, DS2 was a dream - he's not a great sleeper so he slept in with me but he was fine and I just fed him quick when he woke at night to keep him quiet! He loved just sitting in the tent playing with his toys or outside and there was lots for him to watch he's nosy like his mother

I was so worried about taking DD (she's one) but she loved it, slept well after I got some good suggestions on here for keeping her warm and loved running round the field.
Many sites now have photos of the toilets & showers on the website so you can choose somewhere with nice facilities. We've never had a bad experience and I'm very particular about toilets!
Looking back we should have been braver about going last year before DD could move, it would have been easier!

I love camping and we've just had out first family trip of more than 1 night. The DC are 6 and 3.

In the Lakes, I highly recommend the National Trust Great Langdale site. We've just had 3 nights in the family field, although I used to go down t'other end with my tiny tent in my gnarly climber days. Great Langdale is a bit out on a limb for non-mountaineering activities though. Plenty of pubs though!

NT Low Wray campsite is a bit more central. I have never stayed here, but I imagine it is up to the high standard of all NT sites.

We've just stayed at waterside farm in ullswater. That was good, nice play area for the kids as well.

Park foot at Pooley Bridge is our favourite. Beautiful spot. DD aged 4 loves the club house, playgrounds, lake and boat rides. She's happy, we're happy! We had 4 nights there last July at start of summer holidays and it was fantastic. We are returning this year but doubt we'll ever get weather like that again - gorgeous blue skies and sun every day!

Yougo, I found camping with my 2 month old last year really easy! Camping with my 12 month this year was also really easy. We take lots of clothes and blankets and toys for him to play with, last yearning was a wrap and he stayed bundled up to me the whole time. He was breastfed so not so much of an issue (just make sure you have a comfy chair and snuggly blanket - camping was actually when I cracked lying down feeding out of necessity!), but have been with a 5 month bottle fed baby before and had to deal with sterilising which wasn't too bad once we got a routine down! Camping with babies is easier than it sounds honest!
