their camping stuff goes on sale 21st may! they also have gas cannisters and a wee portable has cooker. it's beds we really need, I wondered about a sim on top of each bed? would you roll right off? !

Lidl have Sims and camping lanterns coming out on the same day. I thought I'd get one for DD.

mrsdiddlydoo · 15/05/2015 11:26

Dh has one of the lidl ones and its fine. Needs a couple of extra puffs to inflate it fully. Will be buying another one for ds.

Naoko · 15/05/2015 11:41

Dammit, I've been waiting for the camping stuff for weeks because I want another lidl sim and if it's the 21st I won't be able to go get one because ironically, I'm going camping first thing that morning.

We started off with Aldi SIMs to see if we preferred them to an air bed - definitely did. They've lasted pretty well and the boys still use them but as I 'm a bit chunkier I've treated DH and me to a 7.5 Vango and we use the SIMs on top of camp beds which is great as there is space under the bed to store assorted clothes, etc.

SalomeD · 15/05/2015 15:33

Naoko - why not have a look on Aldi's website and see if they have a store near to where you are camping?

Naoko · 16/05/2015 11:13

It's a good idea but unfortunately I'm going to an event and won't have the time or transport to leave site once I'm set up! I might see if I can arrange it to go get one first thing when they open, right before we leave.

Lidl SIMs

They're in on the 21st May also in their 'Festival' section

Missanneshirley · 17/05/2015 00:50

I think they are worth getting even if they aren't what we finally end up sleeping on? they will be of some use under a matress or over a camp bed or something.

I'm going to get some because it's a cost effective way of trying out Sims. I might get the camp bed top, I can see it might be useful. In the garden if nowhere else!

Also, how did I not notice the Anne inspired name...?

Missanneshirley · 18/05/2015 18:18

Oh hello cordelia! kindred spirits Wink
my first world problem is that i now can't get to aldi on the 21st due to work... Fx they'll still be there on the 22nd!

We have used the aldi SIMs for the last 4 years, have been really pleased with them, good value for money. I'm sure there are more comfortable ones out there but we only use them twice a year so didn't want to buy expensive ones.

expatinscotland · 18/05/2015 18:59

We use the Tesco ones and I really rate them!

This weekend DD1 and I camped in a festival tent in a downpour, really bad weather. The floor was wet and our SIMs coped brilliantly.

Pispcina · 19/05/2015 10:48

I find SIMs really, really hard to sleep on - is it just me? I have to have a proper blow up mattress or I am in agony.

Maybe I just have very pointy bones Smile

expatinscotland · 19/05/2015 12:02

I CBA with a blow up bed. Too much faff, more to pack, they always deflate/get punctures/make a ton of noise.

It's SIMs for us. Cheaper, too.

Pispcina · 19/05/2015 12:57

Yes I know, they are a massive faff and take up half the car but OTOH how do you sleep on anything else - I can feel the ground through our SIMs.

Or am I just doing them wrong?

expatinscotland · 19/05/2015 13:09

Closed cell foam pad, SIM on top, pad SIM with old blanket/sleeping bag, sleeping bag on top and we all sleep fine.

expatinscotland · 19/05/2015 13:10

Tesco SIMs are always £14.

Pispcina · 19/05/2015 13:24

Thanks, maybe the layering is the way to go Smile

GobblersKnob · 19/05/2015 20:13

I have both Aldi and Lidl ones and the Lidl ones have been slightly better, (more comfortable and one of the Aldi ones has popped) have had them for years though so they may be different now, and for the quality you get for the price, couldn't complain about either.

Fourarmsv2 · 19/05/2015 20:23

My £80 Alpkit Dozer wasn't as comfy as the £12 Aldi SIM.

Are the Lidl version definitely better?

Need a new one as my Dozer has a puncture :(

Fourarmsv2 · 19/05/2015 20:28

We got the beds last year. (ones like this m.gooutdoors.co.uk/slumber-campbed-p321889 ) DH broke the bed on night one. He leant on it wrongly but the Go Outdoors version have coped fine ( m.gooutdoors.co.uk/qiuck-comfort-cot-p152316 ) - we use them with SIMS on top.
