Have you ever sold a caravan?

Did you accept cash or some other payment method? We have someone wanting to view and possibly buy ours but are not sure of the best payment method.

No, not yet. However I have sold a few cars over the years.

I would ask for cash, or if a cheque then the buyer has to wait until it has cleared in your bank.

Most people wanting to buy a big ticket item such as a car or caravan would anticipate the seller's caution and be ready with the cash or be happy to wait acouple of days for the cheque to go through.

Thanks Gin. The viewers are coming from quite a distance away so I am expecting that they may bring cash. Just a bit worried about keeping a large amount at home until it can be banked.

We sold one privately and I think they brought a bankers draft as it was quite a distance that they came.

A bankers draft can be fraudulent though so it's not cleared funds really. Maybe I'm just being over cautious.

When we bought ours I took my laptop and did an online transfer. This took about 2 hours ish to clear, during which the sellers went through all the paperwork, how everything worked, etc, etc and we had numerous cups of tea

Yes, we did an online transfer too but it took less than 20 mins for it to clear! The buyers took themselves off for a pub lunch in the meantime.
