Please help me find a funky tent!!

Having spent most of this afternoon in the garden of 'go outdoors', getting increasingly depressed by the blue, grey and green monsters, please give me your favourite funky tent recommendations. One I will recognise from the shower blocks and smile.

We have two DC, 3 and 5m. I am quite tall (185cm) and need to stand upright inside. Space to have our beds and a table/chairs in the rain would be a plus.

Thank you.

Bell tent

De Waard Albatros does it for us. Cheaper, but not cheap though BCT (makers of original scout tents) make some great tents. These are canvas though, I don't know about non-canvas tbh as it is what we like.

Cheaper pyramid styles can be found at Obelink.

Not sure of your budget OP but there are some really good 20 year old Cabanon frame tents around on e-bay - retro looking affairs, definitely have the head room you want with a couple of bedrooms.

I gave one away in 2009 and it is still going strong, I bought it 26 years ago. The main difference is that they tend not to have sewn in groundsheets in the area outside the bedrooms .. but if you get a good one they are really good tents for the £.

Thanks both. I am googling madly x

I'm really not a fan of Bell tent and their camping with soul bollocks, but the Touareg might be good for you, especially as you're tall. A bell tent might drive you mad - it does me, as I'm constantly stooping and I get a back ache. Which is exacerbated by stooping to get through the door.

It's green, and you won't like that, but I've just bought this:

The light coming through the roof is nice, and there is plenty of room inside. My tent check list was 1) I must stand up in it 2) We needed bedrooms 3) Must have a porch. We've had a practice pitch in the garden and I'm so, so happy with it. I can sew a bit, so I've just bought some fabric to make bunting and accessories for it, and I'm planning on covering it in fairy lights. I went for the airbeams as I'll have to put it up on my own, but there are versions around with normal poles that are much cheaper.

There's a Skandia Nords Man tent on Amazon , reduced, which looks good and is orange,

Daisybell1 · 26/04/2015 10:51

It's vintage canvas all the way for me.
I'm on a bell tent fb group and one of them posted a link to this saying it would make a great kitchen tent.

I want to rescue it, it deserves a far better life than that Blush

there is a guy on ebay who seems to have cornered the market on dutch tents (I suspect he is buying fromMarketplatz and selling straight onto ebay) but he has had a few dewaards and an EVSO recently
if you do a search for 'canvas tent' you will probably find him.

or look on Marketplatz - Ive bought a few on there over the years and arranged to have them shipped to UK

You guys are pretty amazing. Thanks.

We are now proud owners of an obelink Alaska + front awning bit. Very excited. Week booked on a site with an iron age hill fort and fire pits.

Ooh nice!

And where's the site? That sounds fab!

NettleTea · 26/04/2015 21:51

Thats a brilliant tent

lavendersun · 26/04/2015 22:07

Fantastic OP. I had a small obelink pyramid as my weekend tent for me, DD and the dog for a couple of years. She was home schooled at the time and we used it tons. Fantastic tent for the cash. I sold it and bought a small ridge tent as I wanted something even quicker to pitch (we use these when DH is at work as I struggle with our big tent alone).

I almost got my money back after two years of a lot of use.

lavendersun · 26/04/2015 22:12

Just remembered that mine was such a long time ago that it didn't have a sig. The newer (and much bigger than mine) get great reviews on UK campsite, are you on there?

gotellitonthemountain · 26/04/2015 23:01
