Help, what did I do wrong!

So I wanted a bigger tent for me and DS to do proper camping holidays rather than odd nights and last night we tried it for the first time. Despite having no instructions I managed to get it up by myself and despite a fair bit of wind and rain it stayed dry overnight. Great.

But today was pretty windy, when we came back to camp front and back were down and taking rest down by myself in wind was pretty tough. I'm slightly panicking about how on earth I will get it up in wind! Never mind if it collapses in middle night with overly dramatic 5yo inside :s

So do I roughly peg it out then put poles in? Will that work if it's windy? And I've never had one with guy ropes before, am I missing something obvious, are they too taut/not taut enough? Are there different pegs that might hold up better than the ones provided?

Please give me your top pitching tips!

I always peg out the four corners before putting the poles in.

Ah ok, so in event of a windy day I get 5yp to sit on it while I peg. That could work, thank you.

Then I guess you put all 4 poles in while flat?

Yes all poles in while flat, then it just needs hoiking up to get the pins in the ends of the poles.

My tent tried to escape in strong winds while we were out for the day last summer. Fortunately another camper repegged it for me.

That's what I'm hoping, surely won't be the only person struggling! Might take old dome tent too just in case :)
