Want one this year - loving the camping lifestyle, but I need one of these now that I'm getting on. I want one which sleeps 4-5, has a small lounge area for when it rains, but I'd like a front area for cooker, porch type thing. I can't seem to find anything other than the massive tents and I don't want it huge.

I really like the look of the Vango Capri, but I would prefer that porch area to be able to close, IYKWIM.

I have a vango airbeam kinetic 600 and love it but there's only 3-4 of us. No porch though.

didl when did you buy it?
Is it roomy enough?
Where do you put your cooker/table etc?

Thanks!

Sorry! I was lucky enough to find a display model in Norwich camping with carpet for £350! It's ok when the weather is good but as soon as it gets cooler and you take things indoors it would be quite small for four. Bedrooms are great though.
Can cook in it at a push and table fits fine but for longer than a weekend I am considering a canopy.

Thanks Didl. Sounds ideal. DH is 6'4" so do you think it'll be tall
Enough?

I'm thinking that the additional porch would be right handy for ditching our gear / table and chairs and stove.

How long does it take to pitch?

We want the Kampa Filey 6 air tent, it's stunning.

We have the frame version for the 4 of us and it suits us perfectly with the layout and side porch for the loo so the air tent would be lovely.

It's beautiful in the flesh. The sleeping area is across the back, then there is a living area and a sun porch across the front which with the air model you can zip closed. Ours is open but when we are camping we spend most of our time sat under that porch. You are protected from the wind but still, able to people watch to your hearts content.

I can highly recommend Kampa tents. We really love ours.

Yes I do my dh is 6 foot and can stand easily but I think a six birth would be a but small for five people.

We have a Hi Gear Cirrus here.

Plenty of room and easy to put up. It doesn't have a porch as such but the front can be pegged out to make a canopy.

Bean, thank you. It looks a good candidate.
Would having the nimbus porch be a good idea for poor weather do you think? I.e a place to eat etc, store things...?

Little. There are only three of us and we are complete amateur campers but when we had terrible weather there was room to put chairs, a table and all of our stuff. We have spent a fair amount of time in the tent playing cards etc. and it was also fine once DS went to bed in one of the 'bedrooms'.

The only challenge was cooking. When it was chucking it down it was fine to boil the kettle in the little storm porch but I wouldn't have wanted to have been doing anything any more ambitious. That said, we have now bought a couple of windbreaks and if it's not freezing cold I reckon you could create a little shelter under the canopy.

I'm a bit late to this party. We bought an Outwell harrier L last year and have used it once last August, lots of holidays booked for this year. It's ace, was very expensive though as it's the polycotton version. I would thoroughly and completely recommend. However it doesn't have a big porch and I think we will end up buying a canopy to make another "room". I don't think it would suit your requirements because it has a large lounge area and then only a small porch, we wanted it that way round so the kids (ages 2 and 4) have a bit of room on rainy days. I can see that in about 5-7 years we will want the emphasis to be more on having what you are after. The porch is big enough for the kitchen-y thing we have.

Hope you have found something.

I have a kampa Filey air 6 and it's the biggest mistake I have ever made. Leaks badly despite it having been resprayed and they are refusing to refund me. State it's condensation......huge huge puddles of condensation then!!!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 19/04/2015 18:24

I really want one so that I can hopefully manage camping without DH. Funny though how one of you love the Kampa and the other hates it.
