Advice on where to go in mid May for 7 days in a Motorhome.

Hi all,

Wonder if you could help me. We have recently had an amazing little man (December 2014) and after seeing a deal online - we have rented a motorhome for 7 days in the middle of May (1 week before half term). We are collecting the motorhome from close to Gatwick and have no idea where to go!!!

We were think Cornwall would be a really good place to visit - maybe stay in somewhere like Padstow or Bude? Does anyone have any recommendations of where to go or placed they have stayed in the past? The little man will be 6 months old so some places to walk would be good and ideally some nice flat tracks that we could take pushchairs on or ride bikes on (he will go in a buggy / trailer maybe)..

We are governed a bit by the fact that Cornwall is about 4.5 hours from collection point so we are thinking stop for the day somewhere on the way down so he isn't in his car seat too long, and then on the way back maybe stop for a night or 2 in Dartmoor?

Really just looking for any advice on places to visit and stay- has anyone done anything like this before? I want to get some sites booked up :-)

We're not fussed about staying the week in 1 place - we were planning on making it a bit of a tour :-) Maybe drive to Eden Project sty there 2 days, then Padstow for 2 days, then Bude for 2 days, then back up stopping at Dartmoor..

Choices choices!! You can see why I need help!!

Thanks loads in advance.

I can't recommend anywhere, but this sounds like a fantastic holiday. Have fun, wherever you go!

Ha ha thanks - I / we are really looking forward to it! Amazing how your idea of a good holiday changes - last year we were talking the Caribbean - this year we're not fussed as long as we're all together!!

Last summer we did 2 weeks in our Motorhome in Cornwall, staying at 4 sites.
Pentewan Sands is a great site IF you get a pitch on the beach front or along the edge furthest from the clubhouse/pool. The middle sections were too crowded for our liking but we had a HUGE pitch with sea view, the beach is private to the site and stunning. You can walk into the village where the pub does great food. Onsite is a bar/restaurant/soft play area and indoor pool. Bus stop outside site expands your options. We walked to Mevagissey but it was a coastal path so no good with a buggy.
Gwithian Farm is on St Ives Baywhich is 4 miles of sand and a lovely site, again local buses run from the village.
We also stayed at Trevedra Farm near Sennen Cove and Mother Iveys Bay near Padstow - another site with private beach!
Have fun!

We picked up our new motorhome this weekend and I booked Pentewan Sands last night, for a week in August, after seeing this thread. There was one pitch left one row from the beach front - having looked at the website I can see why it is booked so far in advance. I can't wait!

Ooh, new wheels! What gave you got?
If you walk to Mevagissey the old pub there does fab crab sandwiches:) we also took our canoe and paddled there.

We had pitch H25 and it was massive, any of the H pitches are fab (except H15 which is in an odd spot) or W 1-15 as they are raised up so get a great view too without paying the front row premium! The site shop do a nice pasty. We didn't use the pool as had uninterrupted sunshine last June!
