Please recommend a campsite in Suffolk near the coast for 4 families with young teens.

We don't need lots of facilities but must have nice clean showers and toilets.
We like to set up tents in a group rather than in a strict line.
We would also like to be max 20 mins from the coast if possible.

I would search on Campsite UK for Suffolk using the 'campfires' search filter, as campfire sites are also usually 'camp where you like in groups' sites.

Not Suffolk but close. Breck Farm is a very relaxed site which allows campfires. Clean, spacious and ample toilet/shower facilities. We went a few years ago and had a great time. There is a large open field next to the camping area which is great for kite flying.

I can honestly say that break farm was the worst camping holiday I've ever had!

It's probably improved now.
When we went there was 2 toilets and 1 shower for the whole site.
It was grim.

But I will check out the reviews since the renovations have been done.

ihatethecold - now I remember your comments from a few years ago! The facilities are pretty good now (or were when we went).

Clippsby is wonderful. A little further away as Norfolk though.

I'm really struggling for Suffolk.
I found a nice one in south wold but it only has 3 pitches for aug bank Holliday.

What about the Orchard campsite? I have never been but have heard good thjings. And it is definitely in Suffolk...

Looks lovely but the reviews say the toilet/ showers are not very nice.

Tangham also looks great but I can't contact them for a while as they are closed until march.

We are about an hour away but have friends at Aldeburgh. We used to go to Brick Kiln Farm years ago, but vowed not to return after last summer. Lots of reviews on UK Campsite.

Good places to camp are a bit thin on the ground in that area imo unless you want the big caravan park type places (think there is one at Aldeburgh).

I think there might be a campsite at Dunwich.

Bright House Farm is OK - a bit odd looking when you drive in but the camping area is really nice and you can pitch where you like. Individual areas fenced off by trees - each one for about six tents. I think you can walk to a pub. The owner has made tracks along the edge of his fields so you don't have to go on the roads. Not ever so near the coast though (near Long Melford).

One of the towns opens a 30 day campsite on the beach in August which we alway mean to go to but haven't managed it yet. I will see if I can find it in my bookmarks later on and post back.

We are looking for a small tent only with fires and dogs allowed in that area this year too to replace Brick Kiln so I will report back if I find anything I like the look of.

We live in North Norfolk!! We do go to a tiny site (4 tents only) on the coast sometimes - it is only 25 mins from the house but we take our canoe and just relax for a night or two.

Is Stiffkey the cool camping one - it is usually really overcrowded, we did stay there once with some friends who came to visit and I felt like I was in a car park. We actually bought a windbreak after someone whizzed along at about 30 miles an hour at the end of our guy ropes. DD was only four at the time and it gave me nightmares.

It can be busy but we've only had good experiences there.
Last time I stayed was a few years ago now.
We always go to manor farm in east runton.
We need a change of scenery.

Maybe we have just visited at the wrong times Ihate. We only stayed there once but have been to see friends a few times and it has always been very full. Same with the one at Deepdale, stayed there once with friends and vowed never to return whereas other people obviously love it.

I am very happy to trade facilities for isolation and no crowds though. I don't even mind not having a shower block , whereas DH insists on one.

My favourite campsites are campsites for hermit types. We have a bit of land at home, no neighbours, etc., I find overcrowded campsites a nightmare which is probably why we go for semi wild sort of places.

Well if you like isolation I would imagine that most N Norfolk campsite in summer are hell on earth for you.

It is and we usually go anywhere but East Anglia unless friends are here!

North is good - Lakes, Dales (my home), Scotland, Hereford - all have sites that we know are more sparsely populated.

Shame DH insists on a shower really!
