What new camping kit for 2015?

Time to get excited about the new season!

I have got off to a good start having ordered a new tent. I am now considering a waffle iron

Though my campfire cooking kit is getting a little over-extensive. I would use this at home, too, I think.

Would be nice for breakfasts, though, wouldn't it?

I'd also like an Outell Collaps Kettle, but that cannot be justified - I have a nice little stainless steel camp kettle (don't like aluminium).

We have bought a new weekend tent and a tarp. 2015 will be the year i get to grips with tarps!

What tent did you get?

I have a tarp, but find it a bit poley and guy liney, and you are always ducking under the edge or tripping over the guys. Better when it can be attached to a tree branch.

We got a 3 man pop up. Already have an outwell.

Its my birthday soon so i think i will get a new penknife (living the dream!)

Oooh I like the idea of a waffle iron! But heavy though?!

I need some fairy lights and have to make some more bunting, as the last stuff is falling to bits.

We are also getting a wall paper pasting table as they fold flat to nothing and are great as a long communal table. I recommend!

Get yourself one of these Skottel Braai

You can get them in the UK. No camping kit is complete without one of these in SA. You haven't had a fry up breakfast until you have had one made on a Skottel

We have the paella pan attachment for ours, gets used for everything.

Blu, yes you can stand the kettle on the base of the skottel (without the pan on it), and boil the kettle, or put a pot on it. There are lots of attachments, there is probably a proper attachment to hold a pot properly, but we don't use one.

What do you use to boil your kettle now? If you have a pot stand for a normal gas bottle (which uses a shorter pole), you can just remove the skottel pole which is longer and use the same bottle.

Have been camping for years and years. We have a caravan though. I like reading up on how others in other countries do things. .

We only ever take the skottel and a portable bbq with us camping. Most of our sites have a built in bbq on the site, but we take one just in case. We have a micro in the caravan which blew up on our last camping trip, so the skottel was used for everything. We do have an electric kettle though....

I have the ubiquitous 2 burner CampingGaz stove,but it irritates me, as it is rattly and fiddly to pack away and hard to move with gas bottle attached into the tent at night if it is raining.

Depending, I cook on the campfire - using a campfire grill - and a kettle can stand on that -or a Weber GoAnywhere BBQ or the two ring stove. Sometimes I leave the 2-ring and just take one of those little briefcase single burners, but I have heard some bad tales of them blowing up.

Nilbyname is your bunting made out of that oilcloth? type fabric. If so where do you get smaller amounts to make bunting from?

I know Blu. We so didn't need another tent but I would never have forgiven myself if we hadn't got it at that price. Particularly as our old Family 4.1 is starting to look a bit the worse for wear.

The storage organiser actually doesn't get great reviews, but again, I couldn't resist asking for it for my birthday. I will report back on it once it has been used in anger.

A storage organiser is probably a step too far for us, but I was wondering if it was waterproof and could be left outside with various kit in it?

I have now ordered a footprint for my new tent - persuaded by the 'keeping the SIG clean and dry for a quicker pack up' argument.

I make bunting from any old fabric but make sure it's double sided, so a bit sturdier.

Got a Robins tent last year. Brilliant. Built in groundsheet and loads of room for 3 of us. We have 2 ta tanka oilcloth tarps now.
We have a flat gas burner that uses the thin canisters that are cheap as chips here and in the EU.
We took our Foreman grill last year and had toasties and even cooked pizza on it.
We only camp abroad though as the facilities are far superior imo.
Plastic boxes are easier than the hanging organisers as you can just pull them out of the car and whack them back in.
It's also satisfying to work ones way through the contents and fill the space with French and Italian skincare items. And Slovenian Honey Liquor.

I can't justify getting anything new this year, although our fire pit was nicked last summer so at some point I'll have to replace it. Still have not found a water carrier that I like either so it will be the 5L bottle from the supermarket for us

I agree with you about water carriers though. They are all rubbish aren't they? I found a fabulous one in France last year but it wasn't refillable as the (brilliant, easy to us and non-leaking) top wouldn't come off. Very annoying as I haven't seen the same one over here anywhere.

I am not an EHU camper, or a much of a bunting camper (not having a bell tent) but I admit that I have occasionally used bunting as a passive aggressive boundary marker to deter gangs of kids in bright wellies from racing between our tent and our fire or through our chairs when we are eating, at top speed ...but it doesn't work.

Sorry about your fire pit hillbilly - that's outrageous!
