Camping along the Thames - help!

Hello,

The campsite we wanted to go to (Northmoor Paddock Locks in Oxfordshire) is fully booked for the bank holiday.

We have decided very last minute to go away in our campervan this weekend. We live in SW London and don't want anything too far, as the van guzzles petrol.

Campfires are a must, anything else we are mellow with.

Any recommendations?

Britchcombe Farm is not on Thames, but a basic site in fab Uffington, Oxfordshire countryside - and they sell you the logs for fires.

White Mark Farm is a beautiful small site in , campfires in raised firepits allowed if you have one.

I know several sites right on the Thames but none that allow fires :(

UkCampsite , or is it CampsiteUk , has a campfire search filter, and a map search. Most of the 'campfire' sites seem to be in E Sussex or Kent. Have you tried the Camping Unplugged sites? Forge wood will be booked , probably, but Abbotstone and Inwood might not. Also is it Kitts that has an offshoot site at Ditchling? I keep getting e mails from them so they might have space.

Try Merrylands.

If it is proximity to London you are after, rather than the Thames, specifically,

Blu - thank you for all this info, very useful.

I was just on the Abbotstone website. There is availability but just checking with DP that its OK before booking.

Am going to check out the others now!

And no, not bothered whether its on the Thames, just near London really.

Thanks again!
