Okay, it was relatively successful. We went 2 miles away to campsite of my dreams. A field, a couple of loos, a tap and a glorious stretch of river.
DC are almost 5 and just 2. Last year was a very different experience - there's a world of difference between a baby under one and this creature he has metamorphosed into! He's having a clingy phase - I might just make sure have my back carrier at all times for him.
What do people do with early waking DC in the mornings? Actually today was good - 7am - but I foresee some much earlier starts sometimes.
Bedtime was okay - we left it till quite late and ignored their chatting until they dropped off around 9.
Putting tent up was fine - they ran around wildly and occasionally 'helped'. Taking it down was also good - we let them play in the front seats of the car and eat marshmallows!
DD had some 'I'm bored' moments, which I'm quite impatient about. I'd have liked a few minutes of not having to play with her constantly. She's not quite confident to go off and play with other children yet (and the other two 4 year olds on the site were playing with penknives, unsupervised, so I wouldn't have let her anyway!). Any good boredom busters? She's usually great at playing so I was surprised. Saying that, she's fallen asleep now so was probably just tired.
So, I'm sure it's been done before, but best tips for small children camping please (1-2 weeks in Cornwall).
