Firelogs

Evening all. I know you can't use firelogs on a BBQ to cook with but is there any reason why you can't burn one in a bucket BBQ just as a fire? So if we cooked on a bucket BBQ with coals and then stuck a firelog on the ashes? Thanks!

Sounds ok to me, though I'd prefer one that's paraffin-free.

Have you seen these ? coolcamphampers.com/collections/cool-camp-kit/products/ecogrill

Ooh, those are cool! £10 for a campfire though?! ShockPlus not going to get round the whole needing to be raised off the ground issue.

I know ...but how much are the firelogs ? Agree about keeping it off the ground . But I want one !

gingeroots · 24/07/2014 22:17

I bet they're really small though .

We use a product called HotMax in our log burner. They are similar to heat logs only smaller so easier to get a fire going and then keep it going. They are simply compressed wood so burn very cleanly.
For a 10kg bag I normally pay less than £4 and I chuck them on the fire pit in the evening :)

Sounds good ...not so many stockists though .Wonder if they deliver ?

gingeroots Ecogrills are fab!! They really do last 2hrs+ and they are about 12" in diameter (obviously varies a little depending on tree size!)
I would burn them as a fire as well as a bbq plus you can add twigs/cones etc in after you've cooked on it!

CampingClaire · 25/07/2014 11:30

Ps As they are natural they smell amazing and your bbq'd chicken smells like roasted chicken NOT some chemical experiment!

Ooh very tempted getting itchy internet clickey fingers again .

What do you stand /put yours in ?

CampingClaire · 25/07/2014 12:28

If by sea/beach/rocks/garden just on the ground. Camping where grassy we are a bit 'rustic' so form a base of rocks then put a large roasting tin on top and the ecogrill in it!! Great for nestling the baked tatties around the side!! Not pretty but easy to use and cheap is the vein we work on!!

ginger I buy ours from our local feed merchant (horsey type place and pet food) or the big Mole Valley Farmers type place. The local big carpentry firm also manufactures their own which they sell in the local independent garden centre but they are frighteningly pricey for everyday use Hmm
