What does a camping stove regulator do?

Ive seen a nice camping stove on gumtree but it says needs a regulator. Never bought a stove second hand before or bought replacement parts so I'm clueless. Do these cost much? Are they easy to buy? And what do they do??

The regulator is a ssort of valve attachment thingy that screws onto the top of your gas bottle and lets the gas out at the right pressure and / or speed . It looks like this. (that is expensive - they are available much cheaper) You unscrew the cap from the gas bottle and then screw on the regulator and attach your gas hose to the regulator. The regulator has a tap that you open and close to allow the gas to flow to your cooker.

The compilation is that you have to have the right regulator for the type of gas. Broadly categorised as red regulators for propane gas and blue for butane gas - like Campingaz and the blue calor bottles.

What sort of stove is it?

Thanks for your reply, for some reason the thread isn't showing in my "threads I'm on" list. Confused

I'm not sure what make the stove was and it turned out it had sold straight away but I feel more confident now in knowing what I need so thanks again for helping me. Smile
