This will be our third holiday off a medium sized canister and am paranoid about running empty. Do refills cost a standard price irrespective of how much you need? Is it all on guesstimation?

Pick it up and swish it - you can tell when it is very low. You can just hear a bit sloshing in the bottom.

They don't re-fill your canister, they swap yours for a full one.

How long have your hols been?

Calor gas effectively rent you the canister and you can return and get some money back on a sliding scale depending how old. Camping gaz you buy the canister and swap it to refill. From my research (not experience) they are more expensive in the Uk but widely available in Europe.

We've just refilled/swapped our calor gas over as going to France and we won't be able to refill calor gas there. I knew there was some in it but the calor gas man expert judger thought about half full. £16 refill so £8 wasted but far better than running out and having to buy a new canister. Where are you going camping? Could you check out local suppliers and wing it?
