Mundane question about tent storage

May I ask where you all store your tents?

We don't have a garage and the tent is bulky and heavy, so DH is insistent that the tent has to live in our hall (as the alternative is dragging it down into the cellar). Although the tent is a thing of beauty when up, it is not when sitting in its giant bag in the hall. Equally, I see why DH doesn't want to be dragging it through the house.

So what do other people do?

There is a gap in the linen cupboard under the boiler and behind the shelving. I nearly wet myself with excitement when I realised I could put it there. It is perfect, very dry and a good place to shove something we don't use all the time. Before that it was split up into various bags and shoved under beds etc.

We have 3 tents in our bedroom stuffed in a corner. Don't trust the cellar to be dry enough. Thinking of getting a joiner to make some storage in one end of bedroom to store all camping stuff and make it look less like a shit heap

GobblersKnob · 24/06/2014 10:58

Mine are in the attic, along with nearly all the camping stuff, bar the sleeping bags and gas.

MaudantWit · 24/06/2014 13:35

You must be made of sterner stuff than me, as I can't imagine lugging the tent up to the loft!

Bottom of the wardrobe

Previously I had a whole floor to ceiling designated camping cupboard- it was a thing of great beauty and I miss it :(

gobblers, aren't you worried about mice Confused

BlueSkySunnyDay · 24/06/2014 13:40

We took out the under stair boxing, replaced it with a curtain and kept it there

GobblersKnob · 24/06/2014 14:25

TheFantasticMrsFox, I am now! Grin, they've been up their for four years and we've never had a problem, it is a bit of an arse getting it up there, but we live in a tiny house and it's a mahoosive tent, so it's the attic or the shed and I reckon it's safer in the attic.

Lottiedoubtie · 24/06/2014 14:28

Cupboard under the stairs.

CharmQuark · 24/06/2014 18:18

In the storage under the eves in our loft conversion.

But storage / lack of a garage and lack of drying space is why I do not have a bell tent. Sad

Oh, and a smallish car.

Thumbcat · 24/06/2014 18:20

Mine's quite small and lives under my bed.

Thumbcat · 24/06/2014 18:21

My friend bought one of those lockable garden storage container things to keep her beast of a tent in.

Naoko · 24/06/2014 19:41

Corner of the living room, behind the sofa. It's not classy, but it's the only place that's both large and dry enough for it.

affafantoosh · 26/06/2014 19:18

Camping gear is divided between the airing cupboard (the top shelf is to hard to get to for day to day stuff) and a big built in wardrobe in the kids' room.

turkeyboots · 26/06/2014 19:19

Attic.

liz98 · 26/06/2014 21:00

Hi we've been storing our new v expensive ( for us) tent in the garage - is that a bad idea?!

MeAndMySpoon · 26/06/2014 23:03

I'd worry a tiny bit if I kept mine in the airing cupboard, anywhere near the boiler or its pipes, as we once had a tiny leak or something (could even have been condensation when everything was off) and a woollen blanket got leaked on and now has a lovely verdigris stain. Sad I've got a canvas tent and don't want even the suspicion of a hint of water anywhere near it in storage. Ours lives under the spare bed, currently in DS2's room. I'm meant to be getting rid of the bed and making his room more of his own bedroom IYSWIM and my main concern is, what the feck do I do with the tent?? Grin

MaudantWit · 26/06/2014 23:07

Yes, the one downside of camping is having to find space to store all the tutt/essential equipment!

When we had a humongous tent we kept it on a low shelf in the shed. Now we only have a medium size pop-up which folds down to a disc about three feet across. It hangs on the shed wall very neatly. Yet another thing I absolutely love about it.
