So it is not like I've spent enough money on camping kit!
I want one but £££!
Are they really as useful, versatile and easy to clean as advertised?
What accessories do you have/have never used?
Larger one for a family of four?
What do you cook?

Anything else I forgot?!!!

The regular one works fine for our family of 4. I wouldn't get the big one, none of the accessories fit.

I have all of the accessories and regularly use all of them except the extension ring.

Wok for risottos / stews / stir fries etc

Frying pan for pizza

Roasting rack for roasting meat or to raise dishes of the hot plate to bake bread /cake /soufflé (see other thread) /Pavlova etc

Griddle plate for bbq

Best camping gadget I ever bought.

Sounds good. I think we will be camping lots over the next few years and I'd like a step up from sausages and smash!!

Are they really useful yes
Are they versatile yes, see the souffle on a Cobb boasting thread
Easy to clean, yes most of it can go in the dishwasher when you get home but the main plate sometimes takes s me scrubbing
Seem to have acquired all most of the bits over the years, most useful for us is the frying dish but recently got the dome extension and can still get it all in the bag Grin
We have the standard size one and will be using it to cook for our family of four for best part of eight weeks this summer
You can pretty much cook anything you can cook in the oven at home just much more slowly

It is absolutely chuffing brilliant
When are you getting one??

yellowdinosauragain · 17/06/2014 22:22

I use it loads for picnics too. There are loads of threads about the variety of things people have cooked on it.

Should mention too that I have a storm kettle with adaptor for it too. Allowing most memorably freshly baked scones with tea on the beach!

yellowdinosauragain · 17/06/2014 22:23

Knew I'd see you here pootling ;)

Pootlingalong · 17/06/2014 22:30

Aw yellow I just can't resist a cobb thread, especially now I've sussed how to get it all in the bag with an extra set of pans without swearing too much. That lightbulb moment needs to be shared
Not that there's anything wrong with smash, OP, particularly fine for a hangover, but so much more versatility food wise with a cobb. When are you going to give in? Wink

Wolfiefan · 17/06/2014 22:46

So standard size then.
I don't need one but I want one!!
Cooking slowly sounds good. One thing I love about camping is the relaxed pace!
Mmm. Must look for deals!

I'd highly recommend buying the whole set together if you can afford it. I thought I wouldn't need everything but have ended up buying it all in dribs and drabs which is much more expensive. Plus it only really comes into its own with all the accessories, otherwise it's just an expensive bbq.

Wolfiefan · 17/06/2014 23:17

I sort of thought I'd look into a bundle deal but it's not always clear what is included.

Yes watch out for frying pan / frying dish confusion
The frying dish is the wok type thing - very handy
The frying pan is a flat non stick plate / pan
Agree with yellow in that I would have saved money by getting it all together
I would suggest

Cobb premier
Bag
Roast rack
Frying dish
And get the frying pan if you plan to do a lot of frying as it heats up more quickly than the dish

You can use the grill plate which comes with the set for BBQ rather than needing the griddle, but the fat drips down into the moat and takes some cleaning
The recipe book is definitely not essential and I think we got rid of ours

yellowdinosauragain · 18/06/2014 12:22

I'd definitely get the frying pan and griddle to add to pootling's list. Fab to be able to make pizza on the campsite which the frying pan is great for. I didn't think the griddle was worth it initially but it's much better for bbq as it gets hotter than the grill plate I think.

Agree recipe book is useless and unnecessary.
