Am on my own with dc but would love to take them camping. Need a minimal fuss tent that I can put up and take down alone. Any ideas? Thanks Smile

BELL TENT! Single mum of 3 young kids packs down entire camp and places in boot singlehandedly ages before 2 parent family friends and their toddler. I thank you...

Well done fluffy. You deserve a huge Wine Smile

another vote for the Icarus 500. The children help a bit but it's easy and very spacious for 3 people. happy campingSmile

All those who are recommending the Quechua pop-ups - can you really put them down and put them away single-handed??

We have one and I love love love it - erected it easily by myself but it was definitely a 2 person job to manhandle if back into the bag!

OddFodd · 20/06/2014 18:22

I can take mine down on my own. It's easier with 2 people but not impossible on your own Smile

Wild Country Aspect 4 - can be done single handed no problems, and is light enough to carry to and from the car. Really good...

That's good to hear, oddfodd. It's just the folding bit that I thought would be tricky - so do you just sit on it??!

OddFodd · 20/06/2014 19:53

Yeah I basically sort of wrestle it. One you've got the top third down, you hold it down with your knee and then fling your body over it to hold it in place while you put the tie on.

I watched the video ALOT before going when I first got it so in not thinking about what needs to happen next, only about how to do it iyswim

Quechua family tent for me as well (even though it's only me on my own in it - I love a bit of space).

Yes, I can put it down alone. But it takes a ruthless attitude and all-in wrestling. I have to sit on it and pin other bits down with my legs. People watching find it rather comical. Squash the thing into submission and don't be afraid of bending the poles/worry about breaking it. You won't. I have to stand and swear at it a few times before I start and threaten to break every pole in its body if I have to, but it's going back in the bag regardless (to get myself in the right frame of mind).

It does get easier after a couple of times.

Being on my own, I had no choice. Do it, or abandon it. Be ruthless.

Oh and I find the shape quite useful when it comes to moving it when it's packed up. They aren't all that heavy but I often roll it along the ground like a giant wagon wheel.

And while those watching me put it down have a laugh, those watching me put it up get real tent envy. Lots of double takes at me standing there 5 minutes after starting with a completed tent.

You make it sound such fun kentishgirl! We roll our quechua along too... easy to transport and so much faster up and down than anyone else's usually!

gardenfeature · 24/06/2014 05:58

Yes, I can put my Quechua away myself but it takes courage!
