Hello,
We are going camping on the scillies next week (St Mary's). Does anyone have any last minute words of wisdom/advice? (We have been to the islands several times, but never with kids and never camping.)
Also, any tips on how well I need to pack our stuff for being freighted on the ferry? We normally chuck everything in our large car with blankets/pillows etc in black bags - obviously that won't do. Does it all need to be lidded, or would open crates be OK?
Thank you! Hope you all have brilliant bank holiday weeks :)

Unless the steamship company have massively improved (which I doubt) you need to pack everything very tightly as they chuck everything in containers and chuck it out on the quay. They don't give a monkeys about stuff standing about in puddles or getting rained on.

Very Envy I haven't been out to the islands since DD1 was 1 (she's just gone off to her English GCSE).

My late DMIL went out to Agnes twice a year and me, DH and DSIL were able to tag along. But school holiday off island slots are like gold dust.

We camped on St Mary's (Garrison campsite I think it's called) and St Agnes, 3 summers ago. It was lovely Smile. Yes the bags need to be lidded and securely fastened, with canvas straps or bungee cords and groundsheets or polythene sheets. Lots of people take kayaks etc with them, all sorts of clutter.
Not sure about tips, we enjoyed the ferries around the islands, there isn't loads to "do" except go to the beach, buy ice creams, go boating, watch seals. it was very relaxing.

Thank you both. I'll up my game with the packing!
Nocomet, we haven't been since 2003 either. Can't wait!!!
