Can anyone recommend a camping toilet to sit in our tent in case of emergencies?

We have a Kampa Khazi, very stable and not too expensive

CampingClaire · 22/05/2014 08:26

Have you heard of the Pop a Loo? Never used or seen one but seems like a great idea!

ChazzerChaser · 22/05/2014 09:21

Thanks. Kampa khaki looks useful. Was wondering about the ones with the cartridges (?) below for easier emptying?

I saw pop a loo but it says to just put the bag in general waste which doesn't sound so nice for anyone else on the campsite. Was a bit baffled by that element of it

Euchhh..I hadn't realised that!! Not quite sure how I feel about a poo bag for people?! Didn't think you were meant to put dog poo in normal waste bins so surprised people poo allowed!!

Cat litter in a lidded bucket.

Has ALL MN wisdom been lost?

muchostinky · 22/05/2014 10:21

We just do wee's in ours, so no real issues. The Kampa Khazi has a lid and a handle, so we take turns to carry it to the toilets and pour it down then wipe out with loo roll. Back at the tent we anti bac/flash spray it and its good to go again for the next night.

We did try the cat litter thing, but found it a bit messy to be truthful.

Onykahonie · 22/05/2014 19:42

Just use a nappy/lidded bucket and flush contents down the toilet/elsan in the morning! Number 1s only of course Grin

Cereal0ffender · 22/05/2014 19:58

In all my years of camping I have managed without weeping in a bucket

Onykahonie · 22/05/2014 20:21

Hehe, neither have I...not normally that sad when I'm camping Wink

profpoopsnagle · 22/05/2014 20:31

We have a luggable loo. Just wanted something simple for wees, plus you can store stuff in it for travelling- gas bottle etc. The downside of cassette versions is that you can't do this and they are bulky. I (personally) feel the bucket types are way easier to clean, and hold more too before they need emptying.

No cat litter for us either, just tip it in the chemical loo on site and job done.

ChazzerChaser · 22/05/2014 21:20

Cat litter?! Blush I've missed that MN gem. I do have a spare bag of cat litter...

Useful tip re the cassette bulk issue. Hasn't thought of that. Mine does need to be for poo emergencies too, post baby ishoos

Won't weep in it though

Lol at weeping, do some pelvic floor exercises and go to the loo

Sigyn · 22/05/2014 22:40

never used cat litter either I must admit but I camp at the kind of places where peeing round the back of the tent is seen as nurturing the ground and giving back unselfishly.

I have wondered if the cat litter thing is actually some kind of MN campers hazing thing. I always watch out for fellow campers arriving with a bag of kitty litter but so far have been disappointed.

Sigyn · 22/05/2014 22:42

back when all this was trees though, honestly, cat litter in a bucket was the answer to every camping problem.

And the answer to every other problem you might have was linen trousers.
