Camping in the Cotswolds? (or maybe Oxford/north of London)

I have to drop & pick up ds2 at Hemel Hempstead in July/August.

Ds3 is a history buff and I was thinking of combining the pick up with a 2 or 3 days camping with ds3 to take in some historical sites. I was thinking of The Cotswolds to do a bit of Roman stuff, but am open to other ideas.

Ds3 is 9 and we can use either a backpacking tent or our bell tent. Any recommendations for campsites very gratefully received. As I'll be on my own with him I suppose somewhere where can play/meet others might be ideal.

Town Farm near Ivinghoe.

If you stay at Town Farm you won't be far from St Albans, where there's the Verulamium (sp?) museum. Also nearby is a roman bath in Welwyn Garden City.

THanks - it looks good!

We stayed at Godwins ice cream farm near Bicester a few years ago. A nice quiet site, although the latest review on ukcampsite says no toilet/shower facilities, but they had them when we went, it may be worth checking if you are interested.

Town farm has a small and rustic playground and a great tree to climb. Surrounding area has Ivinghoe Beacon and Dunstable Downs. Lovely walks all around. Whipsnade down the road too as I understand is the Roald Dahl museum.

Farmer Gow's. I haven't been there but it has been recommended by a friend.

I like the look of farmer gow's but think I am going to go roman! (Might do farmer gow's another time).

I think either Town Farm or far peak near Cirencester (or go by cycle). Far Peak has mixed reviews though & Town Farm would be a more relaxed pack up on the Saturday. We would have Friday to do the roman museum. Isn't there a sort of historical park nearby as well with a roundhouse etc ? Will look into it. An hovering over the reserve button (just need to confirm dates with dh)
