Canvas or poly tent

We went to one of those proper massive tent shops that has them all set up with the intention on comparing the pricey Outwells to the Vangos but wandered into the canvas Cananon section and fell in love. Now I am totally confused. The poly tents - even the very grand ones - seen stuffy and flimsy in comparison to the canvas ones which were cool, airy, sturdy and smelled like camping used to smell.
Any other opinions - pros and cons?
Thank you

I love a canvas tent and I agree they are cool and airy and the Cabanon ones will last you a long time. My gripes are that they are heavy, bulky and take longer to dry out before you put it away (so mildew doesn't set in). Remember you have to leave by 11am or midday on your last day.

We've just bought our first polyester tent, not been away with it yet but it still smells of camping and still has the noise of the zips telling me it's a tent.

If you wanted to try a canvas tent they often come up for sale second hand.

We have both...and they're both great for different things! We have an Outwell Maryland which we use on west coast Scotland (our usual stomping ground) as its sealed against the pesky midges!! Last year we finally got our DeWaard Albatross with its Varioliful (mega sun shield) which we use in France! It's cooler, airy and yes...it does feel sturdier but our Outwell has withstood some pretty awful windy and wet weather and never let us down!
If you are seriously looking at canvas, I'd get a ferry to Holland and head to the Vijbuitier ? Store in Gouda.. They have many more canvas makes to choose from.
We love both of them...
Guess that's not a lot of help!

We've just bought our first poly tent after having 3 canvas ones. Canvas is quite high maintenance and very heavy, esp anything with ground sheets attached. They are also very bulky, we have a van so cam transport the bulk, otherwise I don't know how we'd do it.

Just bought a 4.2xl pop up - first polytent and am really worried I'll feel trapped and too hot on poly.

OOOH Claire join the de Waard gang!!

I love our canvas tents - I think I prefer them for the longer stays, well I prefer them hands down, but they are heavy, often need more than 1 person to put up/take down and need to be dried out. They also seem to take longer too.

That said I once put up a canvas bell tent on my own in 20 mins. was a little wonky but basically sound.
