Been looking at junior readybeds which look cosy with the bumper round the head end. Do you think this would be better than a sleeping bag/mattress combo? He still sleeps in a cotbed at home so it's a bit of a transition but not too worried.

I used a travel cot when I first camped with Ds who was around that age. It was the perfect solution.

Avoid junior ready bed for this age. My 2.5 yr old has one and sleeps so badly on it the next day is a nightmare. Next time I'm packing the travel cot mattress and bedding and yoga mat to put it on. She's in a toddler bed at home.

Belugagrad so you think just using normal duvet etc will be ok. Think mine will freak out in a sleeping bag. What's the problem with ready beds do you think hillbilly?

We took our eldest 2.5 Ds and his younger sister camping last year and put the baby in a travel cot and the toddler on a normal double blow up airbed. He was fine- but he was used to a bed beforehand. I was quite nervous about sleeping bags but he loved his.

We thought about the ready beds but they look cold to me - really thin duvets! We make sure that we put a blanket between the airbed and the sleeper IYSWIM as airbeds can be quite cool.

Think maybe I need to take the side off the cotbed before we go! The excitement of camping for the first time, sharing with brother for the first time and no cot may all be too much........thanx for the advice.

Dd3 had the smallest readybed with the head rest, the cover was really thin but we out her sleeping bag down the inside of it and she was fine.

Actually she loved it and stayed in it until she was 5 and it burst.

Kampa do a lovely enclosed airbed for little people.
