retun from Eastern France - if not sure of the date and time - Ferry or Eurotunnel?

travelling 2 kids 5 and 2-Easter - not sure if to book tickets NOW or wait till we there, look at weatehr etc and then book from france ( will be there 8 days in total. or shall I book flexibl more expensive tickets now? or exact time departure tickets? please help with dvice

I much prefer travelling through the tunnel but don't forget you can't take gas. (I think?)

And I prefer the ferry. Much better if you have kids - a good chance to get some fresh air, have a meal and stretch your legs.

What difference would the weather make?

I would book speific time out, but flexible returns are probably better. And from experience I think that the tunnel offers more flexibility. However, depending on how long your journey either side of the channel is, I would prefer to have the ferry - it is much better for kids to run around after a long car journey than the chunnel, which is functional, but pretty grotty.

Weather won't make any difference unless we have more gales (ferries get delayed in gales, but chunnel unaffected).

Ferry! Good for a break after a long drive. I agree - fixed time out but flexible fare back. Think the tickets on p&o are 20 mote when flexible.

I live near ferries. See what a cabin costs, it can be nice to have a rest and a shower depending on time of day unless you have rampaging kids

I drive to France for work and always use the tunnel then because it's cheap and they are very flexible (if you arrive early and there is space you are offered an earlier departure time).

However when we holiday with the kids I always book the ferry, it gives us a break and the kids love to look for the white cliffs of Dover.

Same with ferries Mutton. We've also frequently got an earlier or late boat than the one booked just by turning up at the port, no extra cost.

we always go for the tunnel as its much easier to keep the kids contained in the car, and its only 45 minutes.

I hate the ferry, even though it is generally a fair bit cheaper. I refuse to go on it again - last time we wee stuck outside Dover for over an hour, couldn't dock due to bad weather. Was sooo sick!

I like the tunnel's flexibility as if you are early or late they are usually good about getting you on the next available one, unless it is a very busy weekend!
