Hi I'm thinking of going camping with my 3 docs this year, we will be using public transport. I've got a lot of information from other threads but I'm confused about electricity. Is it possible to get a pitch where I could do things like charge my mobile etc?

Some campsites have pitches with Electric hook Up - EHU - but I wouldn't get EHU just to charge your mobile. The pitches cost more, you need an EHU kit / lead (you can't just plug your stuff into a socket) and if you are carrying all your stuff in trains I doubt you will be taking loads of other appliances to plug in?

I would take a little solar charger, or a power pack, or look for somewhere helpful you can charge your phone.

Oh I didn't realise you could get solar chargers. I'll have a look at that as I won't be taking many electrical appliances, just my phone and maybe a tablet for the kids to watch stuff on in case of bad weather.

We have the power monkey solar charger. It will charge a phone overnight so long as the sun has been blazing down on it all the live long day. It wouldn't charge a tablet. You can get bigger panels but then you are into cost/benefit territory as they are quite expensive, whereas ehu (once you have bought the kit) isn't usually that much more than a pitch without electricity.

I have an extra power pack that I charge at home then take with me, it recharges my phone twice from one charge. I wouldn't rely on solar chargers in this country!!

Although you can't carry an ehu unit on public transport. They are right big bastards.

Quite often you might be allowed to charge your mobiles at the camp reception.
