Campsites in Derbyshire

We (me, Dh and 4yo DD) are considering maybe going away for 1-2 nights camping in Derbyshire on Sat 12th - Mon 14th August. We are complete beginners to camping, having never done it before! We have one night camping on Friday evening so may change our minds after that!

Have a tent (thank you to person I borrowed one from, but DH chickened out and bought a small pop up one - we were lost with the big one before we started!), sleeping bags and will have own airbed.

Need facilities - toilets and showers!!! Very important

And need to be close enough to go out for food.

But have no idea of how t found a campsite, and how far in advance you have to book - or any of the stuff related really.

Please help me!!! I know there are some seasoned campers out there

put Derbyshire into a search on ukcampsite.co.uk and you will find lots of info and reviews etc.

have fun hula - we are going on Monday week.

i have heard that there is a nice one in Edale, but I have no idea what qualifies it as "nice". me and dh (also novices) are thinking of trying it for a couple of nights in AUgust

Don't go to Barn Farm, near Matlock
Just had an awful experience there
Someone has just been to a campsite near Buxton and enjoyed it - can't remember who now, was it Marthamoo?
If you narrow down your options, I would seriously ask before you book if they have a no noise curfew and if so, how is it enforced?

Rowlers · 25/07/2006 22:09

yes, Edale - there is supposed to be a good one there - also a National Trust one, Upper Booth it is called i think

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 25/07/2006 22:10

I think this is probably it

hulababy · 25/07/2006 22:11

Thanks for the warning!

this looks good - has user reviews on it - includes the Edale one but you could search it for others

hulababy · 25/07/2006 22:27

The reviews are really helpful!

How far n advance do you have to book in August do you think? We were hoping to leave it quite late as we don't want to go if it is raining. Is that possible?

Depends on the site - some get very booked up and others are turn up on the day type sites
Ask if you have to leave a deposit - even if you do, it may not be very much

hulababy · 25/07/2006 22:37

Thanks; will do
