Peaceful camping in South of France/ med coast

Hi,

We are hoping to spend 2 weeks down in the south of france July time in a lodge/ caravan. We normally go for the more rustic/ quieter campsites which aren't too loud/ British or Butlins style. But enough going on that our two girls, 4 and 7 will be happy.
Preferably beautiful setting, good safe beach, swimming pool, restaurants, kids club and enough entertainment without feeling we are at Butlins.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

La Carabasse has a fabulous safe beach (in walking distance through the vineyard)/pool & kids clubs. The entertainment is around a central stage - usual cheesy stuff in the evening but the site is large enough that you can sit outside your van with your wine and ignore it :) (Ask to be away from the central stuff)
Otherwise, walk down the road to the decent selection of restaurants.

I like La Carabasse but it is busy. Lac Des Reves is lovely - good pool, good kids club - nice and spread out and definitely quieter. The restaurant was good. Downside is that you have to drive to the beach. Carnon - the local seaside town - is very nice though. A port with lots shops and restaurants and a big fun fair. Its about a 10 minute drive from the campsite.

I'll be interested in the responses to this. I have been trawling ukcampsite over the last few days and come to the decision that it just all seems too big and too busy in that area. I'd like to be wrong so suggestions welcome

I've found the same. We love the Cote d'Azur but all the sites seem huge and very busy. Maybe when DS is older and more independent we'll give one a go. For now I prefer him to be able to wander away from the tent without disappearing into the throng.

We stayed in two last year down there that were hideous. One was all wall to wall entertainment and scheduled activities and the facilities were grotty and the other was just, well, minging.

We're going to look in the alps instead for this year.

If you like quiet - Lac Des Reves is really nice. The mobiles aren't crammed in like they are on some sites. Lots of green space. Lovely view over the Etang. This year we are going here in the Jura for a week then here in the Ardeche for 2. Reviews are mostly good and hopefully avoids most of the cheesey entertainment.

Ha - the downside is that dd will be 10 and wants to do THINGS rather than just go in the pool/make sandcastles all day. I have found sites with lots of activities - but they are more sporty in nature - tree climbing courses/minigolf/canoeing/cycling etc. She will be super happy but I need to sort my fat arse out a bit first DH has the fear and is talking of starting couch2 whatever its called. Still I used to love skiing and walking in the mountains so this is a good wake up call to get a bit more healthy....
