If you are like my dh and can find stuff, you can safely leave it till 10 tonight.
If you are like me, on the other hand, you probably have to reckon on 40 mins per item (to rush round the house wailing 'Where is it? I'm sure it was in the wardrobe, or the utility room, or the shed.....')

spidermama · 20/07/2006 12:59

I don't want to panic you Peachy but I'm leaving on the 2nd of August and I've already started packing for the six of us. It's a monumental task.

You could leave it 'til this evening when it's cooler and instead write a list of things you need to pack. Have the list handy all the time because you never know when something will pop into your head.

My dh packs most of the camping stuff, but I have to vet it because he takes too much if left unchecked.

spidermama · 20/07/2006 13:01

Actually Peachy, now I see you have a kids party tonight I have to get firm. Step away from the computer. Do yourself a favour. You can do it. Just count to ten, and whatever happens the computer goes straight off, no matter how many threads you feel you need to contribute to.

GO AND PACK!

Have a great holiday.

lazycow · 20/07/2006 13:01

Wish I could

I packed to go to the New Forest two weeks ago. Came home a week later, unpacked then packed again two days later for a two night stay in Oxfordshire while we were house hunting. Then came home, unpacked and then packed again a week ays later for a long weekend stay with my parents this weekend. I also am going to have to pack again in two weeks time for a long weekend stay with the IL's.

I just want to stay home ...............

Sorry - not very helpful I know. I've found the best way is to start with the toiletries bag, nappies (if you need them) and all that stuff. Once that is all sorted and packed I feel like the clothes are easy (assuming they are clean and ironed )

I also always start with a list and cross off as I put it in (well for long holidays anyway).

alligator · 20/07/2006 13:03

Well If you've already been then isn't everything already out so it shouldnt take you near as long No?????
(thats the way it works in our house anyway)

Camping packing normally takes a few hours for me tbh provided I'm left to it and dp jumps and does what he's told to when I yell and all the clothes are washed and ready

Packing to go home OTH takes about a week!!!

alligator · 20/07/2006 13:06

Do you have lists? I cant do packing without lists.

I have 3 holiday packing lists for different type hols

cremolafoam · 20/07/2006 13:07

a week to locate all items that are to be brought
2 days to wash iron and hide all items(to prevent them from being worn so i don't have to wash and iron them all again)
1 day shopping for things in boots- suncream insect repellant mini toiletries i don't need
1 day organising catfood for the duration and getting someone to feed said cats
40 minutes trying to get all items in bag
30 minutes to unpack and edit items that won't fit
1 hour of argument with dh about how i always end up doing everything.
then we all go off for a lovely relaxed fortnight and i find i have nothing suitable to wear

SlightlyFamiliarPeachyClair · 20/07/2006 18:46

Oops

still haven't done anything

spidermama · 20/07/2006 18:53

Peachy! Naughty.
Were you one of these people who always did their uni essays at the last minute? I was.

Tortington · 20/07/2006 18:54

half hour for five of us - stik the iron in and do as and when when you get there.

SlightlyFamiliarPeachyClair · 20/07/2006 19:00

I still do Uni essays at the last minute! I know my essays six months ahead, I get them in with a day to spare max , and my revision was done the day before- I fot a month off.

Useless. So very, very useless.

(custy- admire you, but please, what iz this Iron you all speak of? Do I have one, or was it one of those mysterioous wedding gifts I never figured the purpose of?)

OP posts:
Tortington · 20/07/2006 19:04

bresha · 20/07/2006 19:47

SlightlyFamiliarPeachyClair · 20/07/2006 20:40

There you go Bresha, if I forget anything I can pop over to yours!

Tortington · 21/07/2006 00:39

dont forget a t towel. fkin awful drying pots with bath towel.

LucyCampCat · 21/07/2006 14:24

Very of you going away today peachy - we've still got another whole week of bloody school here! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

and of course the forecast for the first week of August is pretty crap.

fennel · 21/07/2006 14:32

it takes us maybe 2 hours on average. sometimes we can manage it in one hour. we are handicapped by 3 small children who get very excited and pack/unpack items at random when our backs are turned.

we're going camping on Monday. partly because we can't be bothered to get around to packing to go sooner.

mamhaf · 21/07/2006 14:36

I'll be in work until at least 6pm and we're going tomorrow, with nothing packed. Cobwebby roofbox is on my car at least. Packing will take all evening, and tomorrow with everyone shouting at each other for missing stuff - but at least the site is only 3 hours away and we're not rushing for a plane or ferry so doesn't matter what time we leave. I'm going to make dds (10 and 13) pack their own stuff - though will give them a list. If anything's missing, that's their faults
