How do electric hook-ups work?

Are they just for caravans or can you use them in tents? How? Does a wire trail from the plug socket to inside the tent? How does it stay dry and not electrocute you?

...and can you plug anythinkg into them? How about a tv? Are things like that safe to have in tents?

This is one here . The blue end plugs into the elec supply on site and you have 3 plugs (just like plugs in your house) to plug fridge, kettle, hairdryer etc into. The other thing next to the plug sockets is the fuse thing that would cut out if there was any problem like your fuse box at home. The cable from the mains supply to your tent is really long.

Yes they are safe, I wouldn't go on holiday without mine. I have had radio, TV in fact anything electrical. It stays dry because the plug part is inside the tent, the wire is covered and the part you plug in on site has a cover over it. The site elec point would be fused as well so any probs the fuse cuts out and you just flick the trip switch to get it to come back on again. In the last 4 years of camping the elec on site has only ever cut out once. Hope this helps.

What you can't do is use any old extension cable

If you plan on using an EHU on the continent you will need a continental adapter for the blue end. The useful thing is that you can still then plug in all your UK plugs without needing adapters.

I have used a hairdryer, lamp charger, laptop (for watching DVDs in cold evenings) and have also hired a fridge when in France.
