Wow - sounds great. Are you child-free for the weekend?

Thomcat · 19/06/2006 16:00

Yes child free. Will be great when I get there and don't have to worry about kids at a mad loony wedding but right now am gutted I won't see them all weekend. i'll get over it though!

Have I forgotten somnething major off that list?
Going to be a lot to carry.

if lots of people camping, you could maybe borrow a mallet when you get there? bit heavy for multiple public transport options. hav eyou got roll up sleeping mat things? i was camping last weekend and it is COLD if you are on the ground (as i found out as mattress as slow puncture). wedding sounds fab btw

PrettyCandles · 19/06/2006 16:06

You can leave the pillows behind - just take a pillow case or similar and roll your clothes up inside it to use as a pillow.

If you're not taking a mattress, take a campermat as the ground will feel very hard and cold through just groundsheet and sleeping bag, even if you sleeep on the picnic blanket.

Why take the picnic blanket? If you need one, save on weight and bulk by taking a fleece blanket, or the rug you (may have) used under L's highchair.

Waterproofs, plus wet-weather footwear (I won't go camping without flipflops)

Hope you have a stonking time!

Thomcat · 19/06/2006 16:37

Loving the pillow idea. Tops - thanks for that.

Was going to take big padded picnic rug as waterproof underneath and was can use it to sit round on ll day. Won't have anything else. Then can use it under sleeping bags at night.

What's a campermat? Don't have one of those. Have straw beach mats that roll up. Not heavey but will they fit in with all the other stuff. It is going to be bloody cold.

Yeah wearing wellies with my charity shop wedding outfit and flipflops in the bag.

Not sure I can trust the mad lot that are going to take a mallet. Bet we're the only ones that think of it! Went camping without one before and had to wet the gound with our cider and bang pegs in with our shoes!

campermat is a like a yoga mat, foam mat that rolls up, they are very good. dead cheap and light.

peachyClair · 19/06/2006 17:21

you can get really lightweight backpacking airbeds for a tenner in Millets, DS1 has one and it weighs zilch.

Something like \link{http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/pp/Sleeping/Sleeping_Mats/Outwell_Self_Inflating_Mat.html\this self inflating mat} is good - especially after several large G&T's Grin

Blandmum · 19/06/2006 18:11

Get a lightweight sleeping mat, sleeping on the floor is the pits!

bresha · 19/06/2006 18:42

random, my mum is going to that wedding

Thomcat · 19/06/2006 21:14

Okay - sending D to Blacks before Friday for 2 mat things, thanks.

Bresha - what!!!!!!!!! Really? How mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who does she know bride or groom? Waht's her name etc etc?
That is so mad!!!! Ask her what she's wearing and is she taking a hard boiled egg or a raw egg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would take at least the roll mat, I had to camp last week and bedding consisted of...
UNDER- self inflating roll mat,
cheap sleeping bag,
double duvet folded in half,
TO SLEEP IN- 5 season sleeping bag, ambulance blanket.

That was fine for the intoxicated nights, sober nights required borrowing a double inflatable mattress and a furry/ fleecy blanket too .

That was the weekend when we had the serious heatwave too, I must admit I did wake up at 6am every morning in a sweaty tangle .

Still freezing when I went to sleep, but I suppose that was the alcohol lowering my temp .

I felt sorry for the ones who had to work at night and tried to sleep throught the day. The silly ones fell asleep in the shade of a big tree only to wake up 4 hrs later in the full sun, silly lobsteres . I hardly saw daylight so I came home suspiciously pale.

fennel · 22/06/2006 10:16

was going to post hahaha at minimalist camping with kids but seems you are going childfree
