Ile de re camp sites...

Hi, we are off to France this week and have a few days spare so thought we might go to Ile de re to see what it is all about.
Any suggestions for camp sites and do you think we will need to book? It's only for 2 nights mid week,...
We have a toddler and just want to chill out.

Are there camp sites in il de re?

Have a look at the town website and see if they have a municipal camp site. I don't know the area so can't help specifically. Sorry.

There's loads of campsites. We stayed at Camping le Cormoran near Ars-en-Ré this summer and I'd recommend it. It was really clean, lots of spaces on the pitches and had a restaurant/bar and a pool across the road from the main site. There was also a lovely bakery which also did great lunches (salads/sandwiches and amazing pastries) in Ars-en-Ré and nice restaurants.

We booked for early June but there was a good few empty pitches. They also did bike hire though we took our own so I'm not sure if you had to pay or just leave a deposit for them.

There's a fantastic ice cream place in Saint-Martin-de-Ré along the front, you'll spot it by the queues if you're there!

Can you tell I go on holiday for the food?

My friend stayed in one that was on or next to a beach, don't know name but she said it was great.

I doubt you will need to book this time of year. The French 'high season' end amid August, and the campsites suddenly empty out. We went to Ile de re a couple of years ago at this time of year, with our then 7 month old. It was lovely. Can't remember the name of the campsite though, sorry.

It's lovely & flat & you can hire bikes, and there are a few small harbour towns which are great for restaurants, cafes and bars and, small walks.

We stayed at an APV campsite called Au Val due Loire which was between Bios-en-Plage and St Marie-en-Re. It didn't have a pool that you could swim in but had a great water p:-) ark area with slides and fountains with three bigger slides for the older ones. The site was clean and friendly & I would recommend it, we are thinking about going back next year. They have a website so you could have a look. I think the best beaches on the island are along the side that Bois-en-Plage is on.
There was also a site right on the beach, I think it was called Interlude which would be great if you don't want to have to drive or cycle.
Have a great time and explore the island, it is beautiful we had a fab holiday in July, the children keep saying they want to go back and/or live there!
BTW there are apparently 47 sites on the island so I'm sure it won't be a problem finding somewhere!

We stayed at a municipal site right on the beach near Ars en Re (we had a lot of fun with the town name ), it was lovely . This was 10 years ago (practically to the day ) though so my information may not be up to date. I remember it being cheap and clean, and we literally walked out of the tent, over a dune and we were on the beach.

A few years later we stayed at a different site, near La Flotte, and the campsite was bonkers - one evening they dragged 2 donkeys out and put on a play . The donkeys did not co operate at all, it was hilarious and had to be seen to be believed! I can't remember the name of the site though.

St Martin is really pretty, there are lovely restaurants around the harbour, and both years we went there was a jazz festival at the end of August that you may catch. There's a nice wildlife/bird park at the end of the island by the lighthouse. This thread is making me want to go back with the dds!
