Solar or battery operated lights?

Any recommendations on products? White company do a tea light with batteries, John Lewis do a solar strip?? Which are better?

What will they be used for, and where?!

Camping - primarily decorating tent. I've just bought a family bell tent (massive upgrade from my 20 year old 2 person eurohiker!). And probably garden afterwards. Ideally maybe also some bright enough to read / cook by or do I just have to get a decent lantern for that/continue with my brilliant head torch. There is a bewildering array.
