France- Beach or River?

Just that really!. On past experience, do you find either type of holiday better for activities for adults & kids?.
I was veering towards a campsite that led on to a beach..but have now confused myself by seeing some fab sites in the Jura region.
We have one boy, who's six and it would be great to see him mixing with other kids & having fun.
Any recommendations on activities or sites would be welcome!

Weve just got back from northern dordogne and would say river. We loved swimming in the river and looking at fish. Canoeing was great fun too.
Didnt miss a beach at all

Lake with beach!

We were in the Jura this year.... Lake with beach. Enjoyed it. Mostly Dutch families, but children made many friends. Lots to do and see in the area.

I think after years of package holidays, I've been brainwashed in to looking for beach side locations. This will be our first camping trip abroad so I'm starting the planning very early.
SilverViking, that's great to know about Jura..do you mind me asking which site you stayed on?

Just back from the Vezere which is off the Dordogne, definitely RIVER!! Always lots of fun and I always feel safer, look at 'Le Paradis' and 'Camping vezere perigord' both lovely family sites!! Enjoy...

Ollerton, we stayed in clairveaux-Les-lacs, at faylon village site. Three are 2 other camp sites next door on the same lake.

Lake with beach gets my vote. Fab ones in the Loire and central massif Grin
