We are going camping for first time with 3DS (7,5, and 3 yrs) we are looking at the different lights - lantern, hanging, wind up, strip lights, etc etc and really do not have a clue what is best without spending a small fortune.

So if you could let me know what you have got that works that would be great.

A cheapie lantern. Honestly the best thing.

I have a cheapie hanging lantern that is battery operated - it hangs from a hook in the centre of my tent. We also all have a headlamp each which we use for reading and walking to the toilets. Again battery operated.

I've 2 wind up lanterns that hang from central hooks in each room, torch for toilet trips (wind up too)...hate buying batteries lol ...

We use a big battery lantern for sitting outside. It was from Costco and quite cheap I think.
In the tent we use one of those kitchen under cupboard lights, fixed up on the ceiling of the tent. Works really well, as long as you have hook up of course!

Thanks for the tips, off to buy some wind up lanterns tomorrow!

We have solar powered fairy lights inside the tent & a headtorch each for reading etc. The fairy lights are lovely and just fade gently as they run out of charge. Then they charge up again during the day and come on automatically at dusk.

I love the idea of solar powered fairy lights. Where did you get yours?

There's a seller on eBay called uksolarseller. I've brought a few sets of lights from them.

Will be watching this as we seem to have no luck with lights. Have found anything led to be good.

CaurnieBred · 07/08/2013 23:53

I use one of these which is great - I have tied an old lanyard around the hook and use that to hook onto the tent. I love being in bed and turning the light off with the remote control.

My DH has bought a table lamp, lanterns and fairy lights.

Yes, it's our first proper camping trip.
