Southport campsite recommendations needed

I'm looking for a low key /quiet / basic campsite; near beach if possible.

Can only find large caravan parks ATM but am hoping there are some hidden gems.

Would be very grateful for any recommendations, TIA

Why Southport?
Just wondering as we don't live far away, its a very nice area, try this its about 15 mins drive away in nice countryside

We cant think of any near the beach
Heres the UK campsite list

Most are caravan sites, watch out as ones for nudists!!!!!
Also look at Lancashire as Southports on the county boundary

Heres a good place to eat

Penny arcade at the end of the pier is good too.

Thanks for your reply Smile
We're visiting my Grandma who lives in town so want to be near to her.
Had spotted some lovely sites bit further into Lancashire, but would like to be central so can meet up with her easily.

Just back from Southport and people are camped at the edge of the Marine lake next to the Scout building, its a nice spot if you are interested I can ask about and see how its booked?

LakeFlyPie · 07/07/2013 23:46

Thanks zumo that's a really kind offer (and yes it is me investigating on BF site too Grin)

The site on Marine Drive is my top choice, think it's the Waterside Lodge one but it's CCC members only and don't really want to fork out for membership as I don't think we'll use it.

So unless the Scouts will let us camp without CCC membership (!) think we'll go for the one in Ainsdale.

I'm really surprised there don't seem to be more centrally located 'basic' don't (non CCC) options and wondered if I was missing something on my search.

Thanks again Smile
