Am I going to be able to sew a new zip into our Bell Tent?

I have a pretty basic sewing machine, I was planning on getting a heavier needle.

Is it going to be feasible to sew the new zip in myself or have you any suggestions if not? I'm in derbyshire.

thanks

I guess it would also depend on how confident a sewer you are?

Perhaps it's worth ringing a tent repairer first to get an idea of how much they would charge, our local one in Bristol is surprisingly cheap.

Had a quick Google and there's one in Chesterfield - don't know if that is your neck of the woods:

Thank you SalomeD

Chesterfield is about 20 mins away from us so that is perfect.

I am a confident sewer, but I wouldnt consider doing this - the weight of the canvas and the size of the tent make it almost impossible to manoever. I sewed some canvas panels to make showers at our site, and that was difficult enough. I wouldnt fancy the trickiness of a zip without a HUGE table and industrial machine - the weight just kept pulling the whole thing out from under the foot, which wasnt strong enough to hold it down.

Hi Issey
Kingswood Canvas

they also did a fab job of repairing my parents' awning - happy to recommend

Thanks NettleTea, I wondered if I was just being a bit daft and ought to get on with it. I'm convinced to go to the professionals...:)

Which zip has broken on the tent? The door?
I have a zipped in ground sheet and if it is that zip is broken I'm going to look away now...

Cobblers
Our local cobbler is really good and cheap, he re stitched a car soft top for me and charged £10!
Just take your time you will be fine

LizaTarbucksAuntie · 21/06/2013 20:43

It's the door zip :)

Phew! assuming you had a 5m tent, I thought you were going to sew the 16m diameter of the groundsheet!!!

shirazplease · 21/06/2013 21:33

DOH! diameter circumference.
