Bought a Cobb

Just received my Cobb (it's fab!!), just want some tips on how to use it and some good recipes if anyone has any please?

Oooo well jel. I've been eyeing one up all winter. Where did you get yours from?

Well...... I was looking on ebay for a 2nd hand one and they were all going for a lot of money for it being used.

So, I ended up buying one from cobb uk in the end. Was really naughty though and ended up buying the kitchen in a box, so cost me a lot!! But means that I don't ever have to buy anything else.

Well that's my story and I am sticking to it!

If you have the frying pan try out Pizza.

You can make your own dough but I have also used one of those garlic bread dough in a can, carton of passata, grated cheese and salami.

Set up the cobb, let it cool a little or the dough burns on the base(its such a fantastic but hot oven)

Then stand up and call out loud and proud 'PIZZA READY' and watch as all the heads on walberswick beach wipe round in astonishment! God I loved that moment last summer.

zanz1bar that sounds fab! Although I was thinking about cheating and just buying a readymade one and cook that?

i just bought one too. should be here tomo. never had the urge before, but we've just found out dh's work will be relocating us and our new flat will have a roof garden. suddenly a cobb seemed like a necessity.

we are going away at half term, want to have a couple of practice runs with it. going to try roast lamb, jacket pots, maybe some chicken? not all at once, mind. only bought the roasting tray and griddle.

do you know where i can buy heat beads?

I have done ready made pizza in the cobb fine.

Home Bargains currently have a cheaper version of cobblestones in stock. They are called Lokkii, and come as 6 for £1.99 or 2 for 99p. I bought 4 packs of the 6 yesterday- should last us for this year!

no home bargins near me. google tells me i need to try b and q or tesco

tyaca if you do a search on ukcampsite for Cobbs there are a few other places you can buy the Lokki too.

thanks everyone for the lokkii tips. i don't think i have the patience for an online order. i want to use my cobb NOW . weber briquettes seen to be highly regarded on uk campsite so will give those a go this weekend.

the recipe book's rubbish, isn't it? it needs to have a lot more of the basics, not ridonk recipes for overcomplicated stuff.

I haven't tyaca I need to though before we go away at half term. We are having roast pork on Sunday, I might do it in the Cobb and see how it goes.

I am taking my slow cooker, so I might do the jacket potatoes in that and not the Cobb. Depends on what else we are having for the meal though. I want to make cake in it!

The recipe is a bit duff, pretty pictures but nothing that I would actually make!

Have came to a decision, definitely going to do the roast pork joint on it today!

zanz1bar the cobblestones were a bit of a bugger to light - any tips?

report back! was going to do a chicken today but ran out of time.

Wasn't quite cooked, but the cooking time guide on it was 1hr 59 mins. So by the time it had all gone grey (was still flaming though, so I put the grill and roasting rack on it and that dampened it down) I only had about an hour and 45mins worth of cooking time.

So, I stuck it in the oven for 10-15 minutes, bonus being that it made the crackling go crispy as the temp in the Cobb wasn't quite hot enough to do that.

All in all then a decent attempt, I think a chicken would easily be done in it. We will be attempting one when we are camping at half term.

Now just got to see what else I can do on it at home before then.

Agree the recipe book is crap, silly over fussy sure we can do better!
Haven't had any trouble lighting cobblestones.

My lovely local butcher does a great marinaded spatchcock chicken vacuum packed and frozen its perfect for taking camping, slowly defrosts in the cool box and cooks evenly.

Oooh, that chicken sounds lovely. Might have to have a look and see what I can get.

Hmmm weird about the cobblestone then, maybe a dodgy one.
