Anyone stayed in a teepee/yurt?

If so, where did you go and was it worth the cost? I'd really like to go but it seems quite expensive and I can only find a few places that do it (IoW, Wales, Norfolk). Would we be able to take a baby with us?

we run a site with a yurt and two domes in East Sussex. We have a whole range of people who stay from hardy campers to first timers who fancy the outdoors but dont want to rough it. I think you need to think of it like a hotel room in the outdoors ather than camping though that will depend upon the luxury of the site - some are quite basic and you still need to bring bedding and essentials - some have everything provided and to a level equivelent to a boutique hotel. The Canopy and Stars website has alot up the quirky and luxury end of the market. We have had guests with babies they just bring a travel cot. We are here but do contact me direct if you want any more info or I can suggest some places near you if you fancy a go!

and personally I would go for a yurt over a teepee any day as it is more weather proof and easier to manage.

I took DH to a yurt for a couple of nights last year for our anniversary. We had the most amazing time. It was gorgeous. We took some delicious food and wine with us and just chilled out. There was a firepit outside and a log burner inside and a pub a 15 minute walk across the fields.

There was bugger all to do, but we didn't mind!

Ours was in Essex, booked via Canopy and Stars. Think it was called Woodpecker Yurt. The family who owned it were lovely. It was in the walled cottage garden of their beautiful house. Surprisingly private.

Oh, and you could take a baby. The log burner would be an obvious danger, though, if said baby was mobile.

We yurted on Angelsey last summer. It was ace! Google ANgelsey Yurts and Tipis. We thought they were very reasonably priced tbh.

We are thinking of going for a weekend in early October. The yurt we are looking at has a woodburner, but do you think October would be too cold in the mornings/evenings? We have three small kids and they've never been camping (glamping) before.

We went to stay in a teepee at Woodland Teepees in Herefordshire when DS1 was 2 and I was pregnant with ds2. There were 3 yurts and 3 tipies. V snug in tipi but weather was awful so the teepee parents were v envious of the yurt parents with their woodburners.

And yes, it will be cold at night and in the mornings - I'd go for summer (we went in August and even then we needed our all seasons duvet at night!)

Thanks Dinky. It's all booked up for the summer unfortunately. We have an inset day in Oct, which is what made me think to go then.

I think if you pack accordingly - think thermals, thick duvets, hats etc - it'll be fine but it will be cold!

We stayed in a yurt in the Lake District last summer. It was absolutely brilliant. Relatively cheap Wild In Style Low Wray but comfortable and warm (lovely woodburner, an essential!) despite very very wet weather, the only concern I'd have would be mud if your baby is crawling.

Thanks Jenny. The youngest is two and can walk well. I am tempted to go for it - just need to persuade DH!

October should be fine for a yurt especially if it has a woodburner.
