Pop up tent big enough for 4?

Does one exist and are they any good?

I love camping but now I'm a single parent I need a tent that I can just throw up in 5 minutes. Any recommendations please?

Hi - have just bought a quechua family seconds 4.1 to take kids away on my own it has one big bedroom (I have young DCs so preferred this) + decent living space and storage space. I think could fit 1 adult, 3 kids (or 2 +2 youngish) fine in the bedroom, 4 adults would be cosy. Not been camping in it yet but have put it up and down in the garden and easy for 1 person to do super quick (packing it up is fine once you get the hang of it), can't wait for some sunshine so can try out properly! It cost £99 from Decathlon via Amazon. If you want 2 separate bedrooms there's the 4.2 XL which is being recommended as huge on another thread about family tents as well. Happy shopping!

I have camped a lot (Guides, D of E and family) and often put tents up on my own.

Pop up tents look great, and shops will sometimes let you put them up to show you how easy it is. However, they will kindly then offer to fold it back for you. They may be easy to pitch, but striking is a completely different matter. My friend laughed at me when we went camping and she had pitched her 1 man pop up tent in seconds, where as mine took 10 minutes. I had the last laugh on the day we went home - half an hour after starting to fold her tent the flipping thing would not fold and with just one set of arms it kept popping up again. It took 2 other people to help get the thing down. I vowed never to buy a pop up tent.

The moral of the story is - don't just check whether you can put it up easily - can you take it down as well?

We have the Quechua 4.2 xl plus a couple,of pop up 1 man tents.

The 4.2 xl is amazing.I've pitched on my own, need DH to fold again though,just for some weight to hold it down while I fold. Once you get usedmto it, folding is actually not hard. It just takes a bit of getting used to and a lot of watching you tube

In terms of space it's fantastic, big enough for 4, easily. Ideal for weekends.

I came on this morning to post exactly the same question oP. We have a Monty 6 which we've had for years and takes us ages to put up sowant a 4 manner for weekend trips!
Anyone got the Quechua xxl Illumin fresh? Love the look of it because of the fixed lighting and 'sun/moonroof bit, but wondering if those bits are gimmicks we'd barely use??

We have the Quechua XXL llll and it is excellent for the 4 of us for short trips. We have a Bearlake for longer holidays but use the pop up a lot more than I thought we would.
I can easily put it up or down by myself and actually find it easier than if someone helps me.

The lights on the illumin look good though and probably would be used a lot.

I'm a single Mum and went camping for the first time last summer with my 2yo DS and 12yo dog. We have a Quechua Base Seconds 4.2 pop up and it is fab, lots of space and very doable on my own. Ok so I did have to watch you tube demos a few times and have a practice in the garden to get the knack of striking it correctly but now I can do it all on my own. Hoping this summer will be even easier with DS now 3 yo

I love the idea of a pop up for small trips as we have an 8 man Vango and gubbins, which is fine for a comfortable long trip, but not great for those impromptu sunny weekends.

I was sometimes asked to camp when my husband was away and couldn't go with the Vango, but didn't want to invest loads more money in another tent.

Love the reviews and will definitely look into these recommendations for the op.

Has anyone had any luck with the inflatable tents?

Yaay, first camping post of 2013 for me . We have a Quechua 4.2 and it's fab for 4. Tis a doddle to put up and take down (once you've practised!). Have fun!
