Holiday in Normandy

Hi,
We are planning to have a week's holiday in Normandy-probably the end of July for 1 week.
Our son is 6 years old.It is a new venture for us!
Which is best- camping or staying in a gite?
What are the best places to eat that will be family friendly?
Which is the best route for travelling there- eurotunnel or ferry crossing?
Any recommended campsites?
Any other helpful tips/advice would be great!

For Normandy, I would say rent a gite or a mobile home on a campsite, July is not that reliable for the weather and if you buy all the kit and then hate it, it would be a shame.

(speaking as someone who lives in Normandy!)

If you're thinking of renting a gite with Gite de France, suggest you read this first:

We did this when the DC were small - both gites and camping. Always found the end of July better for the weather - maybe we were just lucky!

We much prefer the Eurotunnel now - similar price and much quicker (and DD and I get sea-sick) but the Dover Calais ferry could be fun for your DS?

There are lots of campsites with pre-erected tents/mobile homes if you don't have the kit. We liked campsites because there were pools and often other facilities and other children four DC to play withWink

Have a look at Chateaux Les Eaux
