Considering going with just my dd. went in 2011. Other kids and dh not keen to go again.

Tbh, I'm not that excited by the line up..... I wanted to go last year, but wasn't allowed.

Yes, we're going. The line-up isn't amazing but I am happy with some of the bands announced. I love that it isn't just about the music & that there is so much other stuff to do.

We're going. It will be just dd1 and I - our first year and our first camping trip so quite nervous about the whole thing.

Really excited though!

Not to bothered about the line up as 5yo dd1 wouldn't have been able to stay up for any headliners anyway.

Any advice gratefully received.

Still considering camping plus as I can't imagine how I would cope with a hike from the car.

We're going! Went for the first time last year, didn't see much in the way of big names unless you count Mr Tumble, but had a fantastic time. Camping Plus was worth the extra cash, we're doing that again.

Last year was our first year - DS was 6. The journey from car park - tent was a nightmare tbh. We've gone for camping plus this year. Showers were fine, plenty of food choices & fab things all day for everybody.

We used a wagon with folding sides for DS and our Pimms. We put blankets in the bottom, some cushions etc and he sat in it to watch acts during the day and slept in it at night - loads of people have them and children are up and about later than I could manage! I'd take DS back to the tent at 10.30 - 11ish while my sister danced the night away.

We loved it - not bothered too much about the acts, it's just lovely to be away doing lots of different things.

Take LOADS of cash!

Is it easy to push/pull the trolleys over the ground with a 5/6yo in them?

Did you cook by your tents?

It's fine, although I did tip DS out late one night & a group of drunken teenagers put him back in the wagon then carried it to my tent Grin

We didn't cook at all - we treated it as a proper holiday & ate out for every meal. Breakfast would be a cuppa & a croissant as we waited for a shower & there are loads of food vendors - decent food as well, not just greasy chips.

We left the tent in the morning and didn't go back til bedtime. We bought bits & bobs to eat as & when needed but did take bottles of water, satsumas, cereal bars etc with us.

we're going! Went last year and DH (now separated) said that it was the best time he'd had for a long time. I think with festivals that quite often the things that you enjoy the most are the things you end up seeing/doing by accident as it were. My kids (6,5 and 2) are already excited.

We cooked by the tent and only ate out the last night to keep costs down. Of course, we had money for icecream etc!

Highlights for my 6yr old last year included:

Wall of Death
Big wheel
Mr Tumble
The Gruffalo
Dingly Dell opera - fantastic Mr Wolf
Food (lots of new things to try)
Wearng luminous face paints
Helter Skelter (have to pay extra for it)
Panto
Shrek the musical
Silent disco
Circus skills workshop
Listening to lots of different music
Fireworks at the end

Honestly, he loved the whole thing. It was really relaxed & just lovely.

My 5/6 or 4/5 as they were highlights:
fairground rides
Chic- my 5 year old is a disco convert!
Listening to music/dancing
The Gruffalo
Kid Carpet
Kiddie cinema
Circus skills
meeting other kids and getting up to nonsense
'lost and found'
The fireworks were something else!
The little big top was really well organised...things to watch between acts such as Shaun the Sheep so no bored chaos things going on...there seemed to be always something going on.
And thankfully, my kids are now more open minded to music so I can actually put stuff on that they haven't heard before and I don't get shouted at to turn it off!!!! The eldest is now particularly inquisitive about bands etc- result!!

How much do you have to pay extra for once you are there? We are thinking of going but don't want to go and find we haven't budgeted enough if everything is an additional cost. Obviously there is food to pay for but what about the shows/ rides? Are they included or pay as you go?

All the shows are included. There were some fairground rides last year (carousel and helper skelter) that were about £2 a go. You don't need an entertainment budget, just money for food and drinks.

You prob want some money for the stalls selling fairy headdresses, bubble wands etc depending on how resistant you are to pester power.

SocialButterfly, we took a lot of money (about £200) to cover food, drinks & stuff. We took our own drinks and didn't go mad & came home with quite a bit left over. You can spend as much or as little as you like. We went knowing we'd buy food so planned on it being expensive. Everything other than the Helter Skelter is included. I think. There were also lots of stalls selling stuff - DS *needed8 a bubble wand which was about £6 Shock

If you can take your own glowsticks, bubbles, face paints etc then you'll have less of a campaign for wasting money on crap.

1 adult & 1 child... We shared a lot of meals because they were so big. You can spend as much or as little as you want.

Has anyone taken a tiny one? DS will be almost 1yo when Camp Bestival is on and it looks really good, but we're wondering whether we should ease ourselves in and go to a smaller one to start off with!

I'm planning to take breakfast and lunches so I only have to buy the main meal.

I know dd1 is going to go batshit crazy over the rides and at £2 a pop I'm a bit worried about the extra spend there. But as it's a special weekend away, just me and her, I don't want to keep having to say no like usual

I am planning to raid the shops before we go for:

Bubble wands
fairy wings
floral things to wear on the head Confused

Yes, buy all those things before you get there. Also, a tail Confused - there was a place selling tails & DS has never forgiven me for not allowing him to buy one (they were upwards of £20 each)

I loved it being me & DS (and my sister but she went off & did more grown up things without us).
