Any suggestions - preferably allow fires/BBQs. Thanks all!

Can you do on a lake in the loire?

Slightly further than you were hoping for (about 5 hours) but what about Camping Les Grebes du Lac de Marcenay? Or, on a lake, about 4 hours from the ports, is Lac D'Orient. Not a wild or cool campsite and def not a campfire type place (but BBQs not a problem and we used our Cobb) but on a lovely lake which seeems like the med in the right weather. We were there at the end of last Aug when everyone else had gone home and it was brilliant. Best shower blocks of any campsite I've been to.

Queen - we are open to any suggestions just don't want to have the huge drive down to the south. Hoping to go May half term - do you think the weather would be good enough?

Cheerup thanks I'll look at those.

Did I mention that we are looking for smallish sites which are not overrun with caravans?

There are several camp sites close to a lake on the outskirts of Ardres. This is approx 30 mins away from Calais.
