Please hold my hand and tell me I'm not making a huge tenting mistake...

Sorry, this is a totally needy thread. Haven't camped since I was titchy-wee but dd1 starting school (hence school-holiday prices) have forced my hand.

I am on the verge of buying a Kampa Hayling 6 with groundsheet and carpet for £300. It will be for 2 adults, a 2 year old and a 5 year old, for 1 week trips. Does this sound OK?

Already bought 2 camping beds, will try those as-is before thinking about SIMs for us as well.

A few people recommended Kampa Junior Airlock bed for the 2 year old. Is it horribly PFB of me to ask that she couldn't suffocate on the raised sides?

Don't know about tent but air bed will be fine for 2 year old, they are sturdy when blown up, my 2 and 3 year olds are fine in it

What's not to like?
Have a look at reviews on ukcampsite? It has fibreglass poles ... Quite a lot of big tents have steel poles... Doesn't mean it's not sturdy though... But might be worth a look at reviews.
Looks fine to me though. :-)

We've been camping with DD since she was 4 months old - for the last few years she's been on something very similar to the one you're looking at. The raised edges are ideal, mine just rolled off sleepmats or tries to follow me about (she can do it in her sleep) so the raised edges are ideal for keeping them in one place.

I'm not so sure about the tent though. We bought something very similar a couple of years ago - not quite so long, but the same overall shape - used it only once, it was awful - hard to put up, distorted, and not great in wind. It was one of those tents that only worked in a show room on a totally flat floor.
I'd definitely check out some reviews of people who have one first before you buy it.

We've got a Khyam tent - the quick erect ones are indeed easy to put up (slightly trickier to take down) but a good family tent for holidays.

Hi, we have had to start camping for very similar reasons to you and last summer bought a Corado 4 from Go Outdoors (they do a similar 6 man version). V similar shape to the one you're looking at but with steel poles, it is v heavy but v v sturdy and even as fairly novice campers we managed to put it up pretty quickly and with no problems!

We actually bought ours on ebay with carpet etc so was quite a bit cheaper so worth considering if its a bit outside your budget.
